A whole new world

The students from MAD mingled in the magic of 'Aladdin' the Musical, as Performing Arts Captain, Kaasha-Jade explains:

On Wednesday 20th September, students from years 5-9 were fortunate enough to experience the live adaptation of Aladdin, the hit Broadway musical.  Students from both MAD academies had a full day of excitement. First, we met at school then ventured to South Morang Station, where we caught a train into the city.  We got off at Melbourne Central Station with enough time to grab some lunch and admire the talent of the buskers, who performed at the State Library.

Despite the fact that we could not join in with the performers, our year 5’s   managed to steal a quick game of down ball with the local police officers, who were nice enough to take a memorable photo with us.

After lunch, we walked down the busy streets of Melbourne and made our way to Her Majesty’s Theatre.  We were overwhelmed with the sight of the golden building, as well as the cast photos displayed outside. We made our way inside of the lush building and were transported to a whole new world.

The opening number was Arabian Nights, which was sung by the extremely talented Genie, who continued to dazzle us with his dancing, charisma and magic throughout the entire show. The story follows the journey of Aladdin, a poor commoner from Agrabah who falls in love with the beautiful Princess Jasmine. The show tells us of Aladdin’s journey from rags to riches.

The show was absolutely incredible. I was extremely impressed with not only the acting, but also everything that went with it. From the sound production to the costumes.  It was such a mind-blowing experience and I am very thankful that The Lakes continues to give us opportunities like this.
