Year 7 Maths brings adventure into the classroom. As Emily F elaborates:  

During this term in Maths we have been studying Algebra. During this topic, we have created a poster on "Save the King.” We calculate different locations and how they could affect you, and then we had to decide the best way to reach the castle to save the king. We scribed our journey by calculating the algebraic equations. We started with 100 health and your health had to be above zero otherwise we had to start again. We had to choose our own adventure story.

= 4 x (2) + 2 x (10)

= 8 + 20

= -28

In year 7 Maths, Sarah and Adam had created an activity for our Maths class called ‘Save The King’. For the activity, we had to choose our own adventure, and on our journey we had to solve algebraic equations to gain health so we could further our paths. During our adventure, we had to face health loss due to; Imps, Goblins, Orcs, Trolls, Giants and and Balrogs. There were many paths, some people failed and some people succeeded, however in our path we had accomplished it first try. 

On our journey, we achieved the path to the King, and this consisted going through the forest, going into the house, walking out the back door, continuing onto the farm, travelling through the gate and entering the throne room to save the king. 

We had to learn how to substitute values into algebraic equations for example:

1g - 3o - 4n - 4i + 4p

= 1x100 - 3x5 - 4x2 - 4x1 + 4x20 

= 100 - 15 - 8 - 4 + 80

= 153 

So we had gained 153% more health

During this term in maths, we have been looking at Algebra and the different laws. We learned how to solve an equation, substitute a number into an equation and expand brackets. We also had to complete a project called ‘Save the King’. In the project we had to use Algebra to find our way through to the palace to save the king. Our team finished first and saved the King on our first try! We used algebra to calculate how much damage we took or health gained and what our current health was.
