Rugby

Congratulations to all those boys who were involved in the Sydney Grammar 10s tournament over the weekend. Some fantastic rugby was played by all age groups with plenty of game time and opportunity for the boys to impress their coaches for the coming season. Well done for the spirit in which you played and the pride shown in the St Pius X jersey.

This week the 1st XV will play a trial match against Sydney Grammar on Thursday afternoon, kicking off at 4:30pm. All younger students are encouraged to come along and support the 1sts, with buses departing Archer Street after school to transport boys to and from the venue.

Finally, from next week, the Under 13s training will move to Beauchamp Oval Chatswood, commencing on Tuesday 3rd April and continuing every Tuesday and Thursday for the remainder of the rugby season

FROM THE RUGBY DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

10s Tournament the perfect start.

On a glorious Saturday all our age group teams played with enormous enthusiasm and skill at Grammar against teams from Aloy’s, Grammar and Cranbrook.  This was a perfect start to the pre-season with all our players having the opportunity to express themselves in a well organised tournament, none more so than our 16s who scored 44 tries and conceded only 4 under the experienced and expert guidance of Mr Pawlak.

This is also a good time to offer our players some guidance for the upcoming season.

THOUGHTS FOR YOUR FUTURE!

Here are some pointers that will help you progress.

  • As a player, be aware of your own level of competence.
  • Remember the basics have got you where you are, don’t turn your back on them.
  • Constantly look to improve. Build on your individual skill.
  • Learn from practices you are involved in. On the way home spend a few minutes reflecting on the session you have just been involved in.
  • What you do affects others in the team. Go forward together.
  • Personal discipline is so important; don’t be selfish.

Proudly looking forward to a fantastic season.

Mike Penistone - Rugby Development Officer
