Tips

St Andrew's College

St Andrew’s College recently launched an initiative designed to help more students get to the University of Sydney / St Andrew’s College.

Three of the core barriers are: (1) cost, (2) lack of information, and (3) the belief that students won’t get in (due to high ATAR cutoffs and the College’s low acceptance rate).

We have been tackling this issue in three ways:

1.     Providing Information

We have just finished a new Undergraduate Prospectus, which you are welcome to share with students.

2.     Making More Places

Those who are familiar with the USyd colleges are often deterred by the low acceptance rates (for example, St Andrew’s College receives 6 applications for every place). We have endeavored to address this issue by expanding the capacity of College. Next year, we will be opening 85 new bedrooms (taking our capacity up to 385). What this means is that a higher proportion of students will receive a place.

3.     $1.5m in Scholarships

And finally, we understand that it is expensive to relocate. We’re addressing this issue by providing the most generous scholarship fund per capita of any university college in Australia. Your students might be interested in the St Andrew’s Scholars Program, which provides up to 15 students with full fee relief for the entire duration of their undergraduate degree. We also have many means-tested and merit-based scholarships that we hope will help deserving students relocate.

If your students would benefit from talking to us, we may be able to organise a trip to O'Connor Catholic College. During our outreach trips, we often talk to year 11 and 12 students about both Sydney’s universities and accommodation options (share houses, university-owned accommodation, and colleges).

ADFA Open Day

Do you have any degree-minded students who might be interested in a role with the Australian Defence Force? Maybe you can think of a future leader who is up for a challenging and rewarding career path?
