PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

I am very pleased to announce that we have made two significant recent advances in the role Mount Eliza Secondary College has to play in the provision of high quality educational options for our local community.

Following a period of consultation, we are now able to announce that we will offer a Steiner Stream commencing at year 7 next year. This stream will cater for the students whose families are committed to the Steiner approach, many of whom are currently attending Steiner Primary programs, and are unable to access the secondary school option on the Mornington Peninsula.

We are also pleased to announce that we are applying in October for Candidacy to offer the Middle Years Program of the International Baccalaureate Organisation. The MYP will be phased in commencing at years seven and eight in 2017. We have many local primary schools running the IB Program, and there is currently no secondary school option to facilitate students continuing with this global curriculum approach.

In both cases, the decision to consider the needs of our local area was an easy one, as both approaches are very closely aligned to our current philosophy, and will further develop the unique qualities that make Mount Eliza Secondary College ‘stand out’ from the crowd. Our motivation is firmly based on high quality provision, and we are not interested in losing the personalised approach on offer to large numbers.

I congratulate School Council, staff and community members on their willingness to continue to build the already excellent reputation of this school. This new work will take time and effort, but like all we do, it is undertaken with the needs of our students firmly front and centre.
