RE News

Welcome back to Term 3. We begin the new term just as NAIDOC week finishes.

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’. This committee was once responsible for organising national activities during NAIDOC Week and its acronym has since become the name of the week itself.

As a school, we always acknowledge the traditional owners of the land in our assemblies and liturgies.

This year the focus for NAIDOC week is ‘Heal Country’. This will underpin our work in Sustainability this term where our focus is on reducing waste.

Wellbeing News

Our whole school focus for Term 3 is Help-Seeking.

Students and staff will participate in a variety of learning activities designed to help students discuss the importance of seeking help and providing peer support when dealing with problems that are too big to solve alone.  Some activities will be scenario-based, supporting students to identify situations in which help should be sought, identify trusted sources of help, and practice seeking help from peers and adults in order to promote positive relationships. Positive supportive relationships are significantly associated with increased ‘school connectedness’ and with cognitive, emotional and behavioural engagement.
