Deputy Report

Our Year 12 students have until Week 2, Term 4...

Year 12 Finish

Our Year 12 students have until Friday October 22 (the second week of Term 4) to complete their school-based education program at the College.  However, many of our Year 12’s who are not sitting for WACE exams may complete their education program earlier than that date. As soon as our Year 12 students finish their education programs at the College in Term 4, they are required to leave the campus. We will provide Year 12 students with a Clearance Form that will act as a checklist to make sure they’ve completed all of their course requirements before they leave.

OLNA Testing

The second round of OLNA literacy and numeracy testing for those students yet to achieve the minimum requirement will take place between August 30 to September 24.  Results of the Round 2 OLNA testing will be available to schools in late November.

Students who are completing Year 12 this year and who do not meet the required standards in this round will still receive a Western Australian Statement of Student Achievement (WASSA) which provides a formal record of what they have achieved during their secondary schooling.

OLNA Literacy & Numeracy Support

Mrs Warburton continues to provide OLNA Literacy Support to our Year 12 students who are required to sit the upcoming OLNA testing in Reading and/or Writing. After the completion of the Round Two OLNA testing, Mrs Warburton will identify and approach the Year 11 students who can benefit from this support, preparing them for the next round in March 2022.

All Year 11 and 12 students yet to meet the OLNA minimum numeracy requirements are encouraged to attend the support sessions being run by Mrs Hatch on Thursday afternoons between 4.00pm – 5.00pm.  For our Year 12 students it will be their last opportunity to achieve the required “Category 3” benchmark.

2022 Course Selections

2022 course selections for students moving into Year 11 or 12 will be sent out to parents toward the end of this term. This will give parents the opportunity to discuss the preferred courses and options their son or daughter wish to pursue up to and over the holiday period.  A reminder to parents that Steve Swallow (Principal), Stuart Irwin (HOD of Studies), and I are always available to discuss course selections with parents, so please don’t hesitate to contact either one of us if you need some advice.

Building Dairy Industry Future

Rob La Grange, Western Dairy's Trainee Manager, Bonnie Ravenhill, Ravenhill Dairy and former graduate Murray Findlay, visited the College to speak to students about the Western Dairy Trainee Program and a career in the dairy industry. The program which is run in conjunction with South Regional TAFE, offers a Certificate III in Dairy Production or a Certificate IV in Agriculture with a dairy emphasis. This opens a pathway for College students to increase their training and skills in the dairy arena. The courses are delivered via traineeship or through flexible training arrangements. Western Dairy Trainee Manager, Rob La Grange, explained that trainees stood to improve their career prospects as a result of the training and gaining qualifications.

"Western Dairy is dedicated to increasing dairy employment and training opportunities for year 12 graduate students and is working with South Regional TAFE, WA College of Agriculture, Denmark and the WA College of Agriculture, Harvey, to place suitable high school graduates with dairy farms across the State."
