Wellbeing MATTERS!
Dear Families,
As we approach the end of term 2 we know that lots of learning has happened both at school and at home, as well as lots of new experiences. Unfortunately sometimes we ask our children about this and get a simple answer which tells us very little about their day, their learning and their experiences! This can sometimes be a bit frustrating for you as Parents to hear. This along with the restricted access Parents have had to school and school events due to the COVID situation has certainly changed your usual experience of your child’s education.
It was so pleasing to see the foundation and grade one students being able to showcase and share their Inquiry Projects on a “Living Thing” from this term with their Parents ON-SITE almost! How fabulous! The students were so excited to be able to talk and share their work with all those Parents, Grandparents and special friends who came along to see their work! A big thanks to the teachers for thinking ‘outside-the-box’ and with a little more effort and organisation to make this happen!
And tonight after school the Grade 3 & 4 students will finally get to share their Sacrament of Reconciliation in the church with their Parents and Teachers - this has been a long time coming!
So, as we do come to the end of term 2 and you’ll no doubt be looking forward to spending some quality time with your child(ren)......here’s ‘Ten Questions’ you could ask them (and next term) which may hopefully generate lots of interesting conversations about their learning and experiences at school this term. Happy chatting….
- What was the best thing you did today?
- What was something different that happened today?
- What made you laugh?
- Who did you play with?
- What are you looking forward to about tomorrow?
- What did you learn about in music/PE/library?
- What’s something your teacher said to you today that made you think?
- If you could change one thing that happened today, what would it be?
- What part of your day went the slowest? Why?
- What games did you play at lunchtime?
Of course, if your child does not want to talk about school straight away, you should RESPECT this. Some children need a little space and time to relax after their busy days at school before they’re ready to chat, so just wait a little and see what comes. Chatting to and LISTENING to your child can allow you to get to know a lot more about your child and how they are feeling about and doing at school. It can also help strengthen your connection with your child and show them you care and are interested in how their day has gone.
I wish you all a safe and happy holiday and look forward to seeing you all in term 3.
