Physical Education and Sport

Welcome back to another action packed year of SPORT @ KILBREDA. For all of our new Year 7s, students new to Kilbreda and current students, we encourage you to get involved in our sport program. Each term there are numerous sports to try out for including Tennis, Triathlon, Indoor Cricket, Swimming and Surf League to name a few. Trials are advertised on our sports board near the PE office as well as in the daily bulletin and the school newsletter. We encourage you to attend the trials, meet new people and have fun at all of these sporting events. 'You will never know unless you give it a go!'

SESG (South Eastern Sports for Girls)

In Term 2 the SESG (South Eastern Sports for Girls) competition starts. This is an interschool competition against our local Catholic schools: OLSH (Our Lady of Sacred Heart Bentleigh), Killester (Springvale) and SHGC (Sacred Heart Girls College Oakleigh). This year, due to renovations at Oakleigh Recreation Centre we will be playing our SESG at Monash University on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. The sports include: Basketball, Badminton, Volleyball, Futsal and Netball. Once again, we encourage all girls to try out for these teams.

Last year the Intermediate Softball team won the Grand final game against OLSH. Congratulations to the following girls in that team: Hunter Reynolds, Chaelynne Weir, Llelarni Mitchell, Tilly Adair, Elise Ralph, Mia Canestra, Chloe Fong Lip, Kate Ebert, Liana Tyrell and Lily Lilburne

Looking forward to the year ahead in SPORT @ KILBREDA.

Sport over the holiday period

Cricket

During the school holidays our cricketers played some starring roles in the Cricket Youth Premier League (Victorian State Titles). The girls represented and played teams from other regions around the state in a variety of formats, such as T20 and One Day games.

Olivia Cooper (Year 10) and Erin Carroll (Year 9) represented the South East Bayside Breakers while Steph Bergen (Year 10) represented the Outer South Pioneers in the Under 17 competition. Year 9 students Mia Perrin (South East Bayside Breakers) and Bridget Skadiang (Outer South Pioneers) and Year 8 student Penni Brown (Inner South East Scorpions) competed in the U14 competition.

Olivia and Erin went through the tournament undefeated and were top of the table (Stars region) at the end of the pool rounds and went on to face the top placed team in the other section (Renegades region). In the Grand Final against Western Waves (T20 format), the Bayside Breakers bowled the other team out for 48 and easily made the runs in the 13th over to be crowned YPL State Title Winners. Both girls played extremely well with Olivia taking 7 wickets and having the best bowling average of the tournament and Erin making 90 runs and taking 11 wickets over the tournament.

Despite Mia’s team losing the semi-final of the tournament by 1 run, Mia had an outstanding tournament scoring 260 runs (2nd in competition at 86.6) as well as taking 6 wickets, 3 catches and 3 run-outs.

Mia and Penni also represented the Southern Bayside U13 team in a series of matches against the Tasmanian State Team. Mia captained the team to 4 wins from as many games.

Basketball

Kilbreda’s basketballers were busy over the holidays with four of our girls representing Victoria Metro. Maya Dear and Summer Keating (Year 9) participated in the U16 East Coast Challenge in Sydney while Hannah Wickstrom and Ella Razga (Year 8) participated in the Southern Cross Challenge in Melbourne. All the girls performed extremely well against the other state teams and we wish them all the best for the upcoming U16 state trials.

Tennis

Ashleigh Clark (Year 10) had a super Summer, 'ball-kidding' at the Australian Open. Ashleigh was not only selected to ball kid the Women's and Mixed Open Finals, but has been chosen as one of four ball kids from over 350 to go to Beijing for the China Open later in the year.
