Principal's Report

Dear Families and Friends of Nazareth College
As the end of the term fast approaches, I reflect back and appreciate the numerous activities that the Nazareth Community is involved in. Our students are so fortunate to have so many opportunities presented before them. Nazareth is a school of opportunity – one which allows students to excel academically and spiritually as well as through a variety of co-curricular activities.
Over the past fortnight, the Nazareth Mini Vinnies students, led by Ms Lisa Douglass, worked in conjunction with our primary schools and the St Vincent De Paul Society educational leader. They have begun their work in being of service to others and helping those in need. It is pleasing to know that, in the near future, some joint projects will be initiated by these groups.
Last Friday was another momentous occasion where I attended the St Patrick's Mass and the celebration of Catholic Education Week. It was so moving to experience such a grand scale event with our Year 10 leaders. They were so impressed to be part of the wider Catholic Community alongside so many other Catholic primary and secondary schools.
During this Lenten period, our emphasis has been on having open hearts and the need to support others in need. It was tremendous to see the Soup Kitchen kick-starting the year with students and staff helping those in need.
The House Swimming Carnival was also a highlight. Many students competed for House points and the honour of being the overall winners in their division. Despite the wet weather, the spirit of the day was commendable to each of the Heads of House, their leaders and all the students who participated throughout the day.
I congratulate McCormack House on winning the 2017 House Swimming Carnival.
May I also take this opportunity to thank Emily Morris for all her work in coordinating a fantastic Carnival. She and her team have covered all bases in ensuring that all students had a wonderful day.
Diversity at its best
This week I was invited to hear the Year 12 VCAL students present on their involvement in the Southern Balloon Football League. This has been running since 2010. It is a combined effort between VCAL students and SCOPE.
I was completely moved by our students and their commitment to BFL. Both Cam and Adam – two Hall of Fame wheelchair footballers – were extremely excited to be the centre of attention. I am extremely proud that Nazareth College, under Caitlin Mackay's leadership, continue this fantastic program.
All in all, Nazareth, as you can read, is an extremely dynamic place with a multitude of things happening. I applaud our staff and students for their commitment and the great work that they are involved in.
Have a holy and prayerful Eastertide and may the joys of the Risen Lord continue to inspire us all on our return in Term 2.
God Bless
Sam Cosentino
