Reflection

Lent past half way
As you are reading this the season of Lent will be past the half way mark. In our work with students we have a mid-semester report at the end of Term 1 and 3 to assess how students are progressing. If we were to have a mini reflection on how we are progressing this Lent what would it look like?
Lent is a blessed time for us to turn our hearts and our lives more towards our Lord. Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving are given as instruments to helps us change our hearts to be more like the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Have we been able to pray more this Lent? Have we been able to be generous in giving our time, our talents, or our money to assist those in need? Have we been able to Fast firstly from the things that bring division in our lives and secondly from some things as a sign of our love for Our Lord and our desire to make him number one?
We often set some goals, make some decisions for Lent and may not always be successful or faithful as we first desired. As we get to this point, let us assess ourselves and if needed start again and make these last weeks of Lent fruitful. There is still some time to prepare our hearts and as St Paul says (1 Corinithians 6:2) “Well now is the favourable time; this is the day of salvation”. Now is the time. We cannot love God in the past or in the future, it is only in the present we can love Him and give ourselves to him. Let us make the most of this time left. It is a time of joy, as it is a time of growth closer to God. Let us joyfully move closer to God.
