Kincumber Report

MMADD Day was a day of heightened excitement and involvement from all houses. The year 7's and 12's got to experience the best of both worlds while working together to perfect their dance moves. Kincumber’s win would not have been possible without the help of the teachers, encouragement and support from our Year 12 peers and the willingness of our Year 7 Kincumber students. I hope everyone, despite not having won, never stops believing they too can drink orange juice out of the MMADD day cup. It is nice to know that everyone was there for each other. And now, as we all gaze into the future, we look forward to more outstanding house performances to come.

McCormack Report

We would like to thank Madi Brown and supporting teachers for a successful MMADD Day, your hard work is congratulated and appreciated.

The Year 7 and 12 students of McCormack had the task of delivering a show stopping performance for the whole school, to the thrilling theme of ‘TV Shows’. McCormack were blessed in being provided with the hyped TV show that was situated in the famous neighbourhood of Bel Air, “Fresh Prince of Bel Air”. Rehearsals were intense due to time restrictions, balancing coordination levels and creativity of the performance, however the performance paid off on the day. McCormack performed an exhilarating performance, adapting to their characters and discovering their inner gangster. The costumes were phenomenal, featuring a number of thugs, basket ballers and Will Smith lookalikes.

Thank you to all of the students for your continuous enthusiasm and hard work throughout the process, but also for the teachers who supervised rehearsals and contributed to creating a successful and memorable performance.

Penola Report

The preparation for MMADD Day called for a large commitment for all Penola girls, both at Year 7 and Year 12's. Rehearsals for the house dance competition went for three weeks were the girls all did an amazing job at learning the synchronised swimming theme dance to the Disney channel show, 'H2O:Just Add Water'. Unfortunately we did place fourth, although this was not from a lack of enthusiasm or co-ordination. A BIG thank you to Mrs Duncan for her continued support and of course all the girls who put their best foot forward and gave 110% throughout the process.

Providence Report

Victoria and I are so proud of everyone’s achievements in Providence this year. We were all excited for our last House day after winning the Athletics and Swimming Carnivals, that as long as we all tried our best and had fun it didn’t matter so much where we placed. However, every Year 7 and Year 12  dedicated numerous lunchtimes to ensure we had a great performance to the 'Friends' theme song, 'I'll Be There For You'. Throughout the rehearsal period we were able to see some great talent from the students and also many creative ideas that we were able to incorporate into our dance. We would like to say a massive thank you to all the students and teachers who gave up their time to either supervise, help build props or participate in finalising our performance. It definitely paid off in the end when we were able to showcase our dance amongst the rest of the other Houses great performances. Providence ended up finishing second, which is a great effort and has set the bar high for Providence in the years to come in House events.

Cameron Report

Tiana and I would like to say a big congratulations to all members of Cameron House for all the hard work and participation that everyone put into making MMADD day, for 2017, a great success. In particular, we would like to say a big thank you to the Year 7 and Year 12 Cameron House students for all the lunch times they gave up in dedication to making our 'That’s So Raven' performance the best it could possibly be. The energy and enthusiasm on stage was amazing and we are so proud of our performance. 'That’s So Raven' was a TV favourite for many of the Year 12 students but most Year 7’s students have never heard of it, so we cannot thank the younger students enough for getting involved in something unfamiliar to them. Unfortunately for us, we did not take home the trophy however everyone is a winner in our eyes and should be commended for the spectacular performances that were presented on the day. This was Cameron’s first year participating in MMADD Day and it goes without saying that we are beyond proud of our efforts. We can't wait to see what the future has to hold for our House. GO CAMERON!

Solomon

MMADD day 2017 was beyond spectacular with so much commended participation from all girls across the year levels. The Year 12 and Year 7 Solomon students worked very hard in the time leading up to MMADD day, with plenty of rehearsals and meetings for the performance of Glee. We placed 3rd overall in our performance which is definitely something to be proud of! A massive well done to everyone who participated in this memorable day!

Reconciliation week (29th of May - 2nd of June) was very successful with lots of involvement in all of the activities that ran during recess and lunch. From chilling out and watching The Sapphires (to learn more about Indigenous culture) to creating indigenous bracelets in the maker space, the week was filled with tradition and acknowledgment of indigenous culture in Australia.

WAAM & College Captains Report

Perhaps one of our busier months, May has been crazy; with jumpers arriving, staff vs. student events, SCSA sports and MMADD Day as well as the usual SACs and assessments.

The Student Leadership Team has been working hard to come up with some brilliant and interactive ideas that will continue to build on the house and community spirit around the College. These ideas begin with activities run throughout Reconciliation week (27th May - 3rd June), organised by the Solomon House Captains and Celine, Charlotte and Mai from the Ministry portfolio. Continuing into next term where some of our Junior members will lead the charge.

Highly anticipated this term was the long awaited arrival of the Year 12 jumpers, designed by Christine Yankoulas and to be worn every Friday until the conclusion of the school year. The girls were very excited and eager to wear with pride a jumper that signifies our last year of school.

Academic Report

As exam period slowly approaches, the Academic portfolio has given ‘Study Buddies’ a full makeover. It is now a tutoring program for students at all year levels. Students from Year 7 to 10 are being mentored by the VCE student tutors available after school on Wednesday from 3.15pm - 4.15pm. Year 11's and 12's are also covered with experienced and approachable year 12's ready to help. There are a wide range of subjects that are available each week, and students are able to check the tutor roster in the LRC.

Homework Club is also open to students who prefer to stay and study in the library after school everyday. It may not be so new anymore but it is surely popular and beneficial. Not only are semester exams approaching, but VCAA has released the VCAA examination timetables for those studying a Units 3 & 4 subject - this program is surely beneficial with all the study students are doing!

Staff vs. Student Family Feud was held on Wednesday 17 June. It was great to start off with but then the internet disappointed everyone so backup plans were used instead. However there was a great turnout. Congratulations to the teachers for winning the 2017 Family Feud challenge but I am sure students will take the cup back very soon in the next few competitions! (Hint: ‘Are You Smarter Than A 7th Grader?’ is around the corner) Stay tuned!

Ministry Report

“Open new horizons for spreading joy – young people, faith and vocational discernment”

This is the theme for the 2017 Australian Catholic Youth Festival which occurs every two years. This year, the festival will be held in Sydney from December 7th to the 9th and is an incredible weekend where young Catholics from all over our nation are able to come together and experience the works of God and celebrate their faith with one another. Strong friendships and relationships will be made and deeply moving spiritual experiences will be had. MSJ is extremely lucky to be able to take a number of students from Year 9 and above to attend ACYF, and we hope that all who apply have an amazing and inspirational experience.

Caritas has always been a major fundraising campaign at MSJ and the Ministry Team, alongside the other SLT leaders, were able to organise many events in order to raise money for the Caritas foundation. We kicked off our fundraising with our Shrove Tuesday Pancake stall, had a wonderful Caritas themed Club MSJ and also had our very first Kahoot for a Cause. Many of the MSJ students donated both their money and time in order to raise funds for Caritas. The Ministry portfolio continues to work on various social justice campaigns and Earth Team initiatives and on behalf of the team, we would like to say a big thank you to all of the students and staff who have helped us so far.

Wellbeing Report

The longest term of the year is rapidly coming to an end, however the Wellbeing team despite having a busy last couple weeks has countless tasks prepared for the upcoming month.

House Captains have been working intently on various activities such as Year 7 Netball Tournament, Random Acts of Kindness activities, and a Trivia Night. Now for one of the most anticipated events in the school calendar, The Staff VS Student Tournaments. Unlike any year before all year levels have the opportunity to compete against the teachers not just year 12s. This is an exciting new addition that year levels are eager to embrace.

The school psychologists have also prepared sessions on the topics of time management, stress management and importance of sleep. These sessions are open to everyone and will include vital information that anyone can benefit from.

Arts Report

This term has been the busiest yet for the Arts portfolio with our biggest day of the year MMADD DAY!!

This year our theme of “The Best Of Television” was a huge success. We started with a morning assembly showing off the talents of MSJ in Media, Music, Art, Drama and Dance before we were taken on a journey with the very inspiring Jessica Hackett.

Junior House Captains Report

In 2017 MSJ has introduced a new opportunity for Year 9 students to develop life, teamwork, and public behavioural skills, through the Year Nine Program. This program features guest speakers, excursions and workshops to build valuable attributes. Throughout the first semester the Year Nines have received workshops on the human brain, communication and responsible organisation of activities. These lessons have allowed the students to plan an excursion in our local area, putting all of our newfound skills into play. When the students attend their self-planned excursions it will demonstrate the responsibility and organisational prowess that we have spent weeks learning. The Junior House captains have also been a part of the Year Nine Program, and believe that it is a fantastic addition to the year nine curriculum.
