Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends of Nazareth College

This week has been extremely busy at Nazareth.  We have been able to showcase the College – our students, staff, facilities and programs – to a large number of primary school students, their teachers and some parents.

Our Taster Days are designed to give primary school students a secondary school experience.  It is wonderful to be able to allow them to commence their transition in such a positive manner.

I thank Mrs Emilia Roberts, Ms Lauren Conlon, Mrs Helene Diamantopoulos and Ms Bernadette Bryant for their assistance, together with our participating staff and student leaders.

Nazareth College continues to plan for ways in which we can always improve and expand on our offerings.  At present, we are planning to extend our Excellence Program to include Tennis.  This will allow our Physical Education program to broaden its curriculum and give the College another facility to utilise and also broaden the number of Tennis courts available within our Community.

I attach photos of our plans for your perusal and comment:

In the academic field, we are also planning to upgrade our Science buildings to enable our students to study the Sciences in the very best and most modern facilities.

Please feel free to contribute your ideas on our proposals:

On a separate matter, I encourage all families to adhere to the Victorian Health Authority’s recommendation to maintain good hygiene standards.  At school, many hygiene stations have been set up to encourage students to disinfect or wash their hands.

If your child is not feeling well, it would be appreciated if you could keep him / her at home.  This helps to minimise the spread of illness.  Your cooperation in this matter is imperative and much appreciated.

Due to the current Coronavirus situation, we were informed that students from our sister school in Japan (Shibuya Junior High School) will not be coming to Australia – the Study Tour is temporarily postponed.  The Japanese government has chosen to close all schools for a period of one month.

A reminder that tomorrow (6 March) is a Student Free Day.  All staff members will be on campus involved in Professional Development activities.  These days are extremely  beneficial and will help further improve learning approaches here at Nazareth.

I continue to ask our Community to keep Willow Griffiths and her family in your prayers.  We sincerely hope that in the coming weeks she will awake from her coma.  This is a crucial time, so all our prayers are with her in this time of need.

In this Newsletter edition, I have included a photo of each Head of House.

Heads of House play an integral part in ensuring that each child’s wellbeing and learning is maximised to the fullest potential.  I encourage you to contact your child’s Pastoral Teacher as a first ‘port of call’ and thereafter the Head of House will work with you regarding your child’s needs.

I look forward to our forthcoming 35 Year Anniversary celebratory Carnival next Saturday (14 March) from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm.  Please bring along your family and friends and enjoy the festivities.

God bless

Mr Sam Cosentino
