The Third Sunday of Advent

Do not lose heart; the Lord's coming will be soon

Be patient, brothers, until the Lord’s coming. Think of a farmer: how patiently he waits for the precious fruit of the ground until it has had the autumn rains and the spring rains! You too have to be patient; do not lose heart, because the Lord’s coming will be soon. Do not make complaints against one another, brothers, so as not to be brought to judgement yourselves; the Judge is already to be seen waiting at the gates. For your example, brothers, in submitting with patience, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

James 5:7-10

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,

This week students have been recognised for their outstanding achievements across a wide range of College life. Within this newsletter is a list of students who received awards at our 2019 Major Awards Ceremony. Like the Semester two Awards which were given out on Thursday, some students received a number of awards and some received one. Whilst numerous awards indicate amazing talents and effort , for some students it was the first time that they have received recognition for improvement. This can be a turning point in their self-esteem and my congratulations go to all students who have made progress over the 2019 school year. Everyone sets goals and targets and my hope is that each and every student is raising their own standards at a pace that they find rewarding.

In my annual report that was presented to the College community today I mentioned that the work we do here at Marian is a combined effort. Together, over the year, we build our college  success. I mentioned, “... the College has a heart built upon the Spirit of God and the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit is action-centred upon doing good in the world around us. Pope john Paul II now Saint John Paul II once said, “The Spirit’s action produces multiplicity but also leads to unity: a multiplicity of gifts, vocations and ministries. He writes that we can see the action of the Holy Spirit at work when the community bond is strong, when every one of the members work towards building the community. I sincerely believe that this is how we have worked together at Marian this year and in doing so we are living out our motto of The Way, The Truth and The Life. I thank each and every one of you for doing your part.”

Today the College farewelled a number of students and staff.  I thank them for their contribution to our College and wish them well in their future endeavours. The  staff leaving are, Ms Beltrame, Ms Bruss, Mr Piccinin, Mr Robertson, Ms Randolph, Mr Parmenter, Ms Castellano-Ramirez, Mr Moore and Mr Hillam.

As this is the final newsletter for the year, I wish everyone a safe and blessed Festive Season break and enjoy the Summer holiday break. The College resumes for students on Thursday  30 January for Years 7, 11 and 12, and Friday 31 January for Years 8-10.

Lastly, and importantly, today I received confirmation from the Federal Minister of Education that the College has received a grant of $3,399.916.00 to assist in the building of the TAS Block, new classrooms, office and staff facilities. This is exciting news and  more will be released as the plans unfold. I thank the Australian Government for their contribution to this project. Building will take place over the coming year.

Peace and Best Wishes
