Boarding School News

Mrs. Kathryn Searle - Head of Boarding

It has been another busy week in the Boarding House.

With one week of the Term to go, the girls are very much looking forward to going home to see their families.

On Tuesday evening I experienced one of my happiest moments since becoming Head of Boarding.  Year 10 student, Jany, boarded a plane home to her family in Thailand for the holidays.  This is the first time Jany has been home since January 2020.  It is wonderful to finally have our international borders open so our international boarders can once again go home and see their families.

These past few weeks has been challenging. With a rapidly evolving COVID-19 environment across many schools in Brisbane, this has demanded resilience from our boarders and staff.

It has also been a time of growth. Many girls have shown outstanding leadership by offering support, leading by example, and going above and beyond their normal expectations.

I sincerely thank all individuals who have responded to challenges with great resilience over these past few weeks. The Health Centre has been the rock on which we have all leaned for support, advice, masks, tests, and a caring ear. Our school nurse, Fiona James, has done so much for the boarding community, and we can’t thank her enough.

During Term 2 we will be hitting the road again to showcase our wonderful school and Boarding House.  The below outlines the dates we will be visiting regional areas to catch up with current, past and enrolled boarding families and Old Collegians.

  • Thursday 28 April to Saturday 30 April - Goondiwindi
  • Sunday 1 May - St George
  • Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June - Charters Towers / Townsville
  • Tuesday 8 June to Thursday 9 June - Blackall (ICPA State Conference)
  • Thursday 23 June to Sunday 26 June - Emerald / Clermont

Not many sleeps now until end of term!
