Earth Hour

Earth Hour is a global movement taking place this Saturday 26 March, from 8:30 pm – 9:30 pm local time.  To support this initiative, Clayfield College will recognise Earth Hour on Friday 25 March, from 8:40 am - 9:40 am.  Green Team members were tasked with ensuring that their classrooms turned off all power for one hour.  If you would like to switch off too, and support millions around the world, remember to turn off your lights on Saturday night!

Easter Bonnet Parade

Pre-Prep to Year 1

Next Wednesday 30 March, our early year's students will be joining in an Easter Bonnet Parade.  Parents/caregivers of our Pre-Prep to Year 1 students are invited to classrooms at 1:30 pm.  The children will be gathering along the Prep Verandahs for bonnet making with their special visitors (all resources will be provided).  At 2:00 pm, we will move down to the Amphitheatre for a parade of our beautiful creations!

We look forward to seeing you hopping along if you can make it!

Year 6 Camp Recounts

"My favourite thing about camp was archery.  It was so much fun, and we learned a lot of things like trying your best.  It was important not to show off or make out like you were better than everyone.  If something was difficult, you just tried and tried again.  Everyone did an outstanding job.  Overall, it was so much fun!"
Angelina

"As we boarded the bus last Wednesday to head to our camping grounds at Kenilworth Homestead, there were lots of goodbyes and “Have a great time!” from our parents.  We were all so excited to go on our last Primary camp.  Aroona Coolaman was my favourite activity.  It was a water game.  We started by passing a bucket with our feet while sitting in a circle.  But this wasn’t any bucket.  It was full of water!  It was challenging but heaps of fun and lots of laughter!  We didn’t make it around the circle, but we all tried our best.  In the next game, we had to fill up a tube with water to get a ball to the top of it.  Some of us stood in a line and poured water into each other’s buckets and then into the tube, but the tube had holes!  So others had to cover the holes.  We only managed to get up to 10cm.  Then suddenly, Mr. Woods “tripped” and splashed water all over me and on some other people.  That’s when the water fight started!  We all got drenched.  So did Mr. Woods!  There were so many other highlights of this camp, and I will cherish each and every moment I spent there with my friends and teachers."

"Camp was a great experience!  I had heaps of fun with my peers working and learning together.  I was so excited on the bus and I couldn’t wait to see what our cabins were like.  I shared a cabin with Aria and Nanako.  I loved making my bed and setting up because I made my area super neat.  Lunch was our first meal and it was really good.  We had burgers.  I wish I had Luca’s burger because he had a veggie patty and I love veggie patties.  We did a lot of activities and they were really fun.  Down at the creek, Mr. Woods taught us how to skim stones.  He also came with us to an activity which involved flying.  It was so fun when we were pulling Mr. Woods up in his harness.  On the second night I shared a tent with Georgie and Neve.  It was super fun and we giggled a lot.  Scott, our instructor, told us to go to sleep, so we stayed silent but stared at each other and smiled.  Overall, camp was a really good experience.  It was so different to Mapleton and so worth it.  I loved camp this year and I can’t wait for next year’s camp!"

Parking Around The College

We hope you are enjoying a safe and good start to the school year.  We understand that if you drop off your child by car to school, you may be experiencing some challenges in our drop off zones and surrounding streets.  The best places to drop and pick your child up is along Gregory Street (Gates 1 and 2) or along Bayview Terrace (Gates 4, 5 and 6). https://www.clayfield.qld.edu.au/the-essentials/college-map

Please be mindful that if you are parking on these streets, you abide by the road rules, as we have had several complaints from our neighbours regarding parents' parking.

Please adhere to the following:

Don't Block Driveways

You must not park on or across a driveway or prevent access to a property.  This restricts pedestrian access and can reduce visibility for other road users.

Restricting Waste Collection

Do not park in front of household rubbish bins.  You must leave at least three metres of clear roadway beside your vehicle.  This allows large vehicles, such as waste trucks to access local streets.

Double Parking

A driver must not stop a vehicle so that any portion of the vehicle is between any other stationary vehicle and the centre of the road.

Unlawful parking in school areas is a major safety hazard that poses a risk to children, pedestrians and other road users.  Please do not stop in areas that are defined by signage or a continuous yellow line painted along the edge of a road.

Important Information - Returning to School after COVID-19

Please find some very important information about returning to school after having COVID-19.  It is essential that your child wears a mask for 7 days post COVID-19 quarantine period.

AFTER HAVING COVID-19 - end isolation after 7 days or when your symptoms are gone.  You can leave isolation after 7 days if you have no more symptoms or only a mild, dry cough.  If you still have symptoms after 7 days, stay home until your symptoms are gone, or seek medical care if you are not sure.  You don’t need a negative test to end isolation.

IN THE 7 DAYS AFTER ENDING ISOLATION.

You can go to work or school or return to your normal activities.  You don’t need a negative test result to go back to work or study.  There is no need to show a negative test to your employer or educational institution.  This is because most people who get COVID-19 will continue to test positive for some time after they have recovered, even though they no longer have COVID-19 and are no longer infectious.

If you leave your house:

  • Wear a face mask, including whenever you are indoors, or when you’re outdoors but can’t socially distance
  • Wash your hands regularly

Don’t visit:

  • An aged care facility
  • A disability care setting
  • A correctional facility like a prison
  • A healthcare facility like a GP or a hospital (unless the hospital has approved your visit to support a patient)
  • A discrete Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community

You can go to these places if you work there or you are getting care.

IN THE 4 WEEKS AFTER ENDING ISOLATION.

You are unlikely to get COVID-19 again in the 4 weeks after you recover.

During this time, if you get COVID-19 symptoms again, you do not need to get tested.

If someone else in your house gets COVID-19, you are not considered a close contact, and you do not need to get tested or go into quarantine.

GET YOUR NEXT VACCINATION AND LOOK AFTER YOUR HEALTH.

Even if you’ve had COVID-19, you should get vaccinated.  After you have recovered, you can get vaccinated – regardless of whether it’s your first, second or booster dose.  You are far less likely to get severe disease should you get COVID-19 again, if you have been vaccinated.  However, don’t attend a vaccination appointment if you have any COVID-19 symptoms.  If you have missed some medical or health appointments while you were in isolation, now is a good time to call your GP and arrange an appointment to have a check-up or get back on track with caring for your health.

MORE THAN 4 WEEKS AFTER YOUR RECOVER.

If – more than 4 weeks after your recover – you have COVID-19 symptoms again, get tested.  If you get a positive result, complete 7 days of isolation.  If you have been told you are a close contact of someone who has COVID-19, follow the testing and quarantine steps for close contacts.
