From the Principal

Dr. Andrew Cousins

As you would be aware, many schools across Southeast Queensland are experiencing an increase of students and staff either contracting COVID-19 or having to isolate due to being a close contact.

The health and well-being of our students, staff and community are paramount as it can have a significant impact on learning.

From the start of the pandemic, the College has implemented several health and hygiene protocols along with classroom ventilation and pedestrian flow restrictions which all enhance the safety of everyone in the College community.  Included in the Primary and Secondary sections of today's Clayfield Collective, it outlines the government quarantine, isolation, testing and return to school requirements. Please note it is a government requirement for those who have suffered COVID-19 to wear a mask, when they can not social distance, for seven days following their quarantine period.

Although the Queensland Government has not reintroduced the mandatory wearing of masks in schools, I would like to strongly encourage all students in Years 7 to 12, staff and visitors who are unable to safely maintain a 1.5 metre distance from others to wear a mask.  We are particularly mindful of our boarding students who will start to return home over the coming week.

It is important that if your child is sick, they do not attend school. Students should attend their local Queensland Health testing clinics, where they will be prioritised to receive a RAT.

If a student or staff member develops COVID-19 symptoms while at school, they will be able to access free RATs from the Health Centre. Parents/caregivers will need to collect their child and administer the test at home. If a parent/caregiver is sick, please do not come to the school; contact the Student Administration to arrange an alternative pick-up of your child. Please find attached the Student COVID-19 Attendance Procedure.

With the increased number of students across Brisbane testing positive, this also has a flow-on effect with teachers who may also test positive or be classed as a “close contact” and need to care for their child. I want to thank the staff and the wider College community for their support and understanding as we navigate this journey together.

Tomorrow our Primary School boys will participate in the Britton Shield Touch Football competition at Moreton Bay Boy’s College. I wish the boys the best of luck for tomorrow; I am sure it will be a wonderful day.

Next Tuesday, the College will host the QGSSSA Artistic Gymnastics championship. I thank the girls and the coaching staff for all the hard work and dedication they have put into their training. We look forward to sharing the results and photos with you next week.

Last Friday night, it was great to see so many parents join us at the P&F Welcome Evening; I hope that you all had an enjoyable night. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the P&F committee for organising the night, in particular, the members of the executive Rae Morris, John Robbins, Dave Lennon, Megan Child, Russell Shaw and Charlotte Reichard. These events are always an excellent opportunity for parents to catch up and meet other parents if they are new to the College.

The Term 1 co-curricular program is nearing completion, and preparations for Term 2 activities are well underway. I offer my congratulations to all involved in activities this term. As we now head into the final week of Term 1, I encourage all the students to continue working hard, remain focused, and finish the term off well.
