YEAR 8 & 9 VR Game Creation Excursion

BY ARCHIE C (YEAR 8 STUDENT)

On Tuesday my class (8BM) and some Year 9 students went on an excursion to the Yarra Ranges Tech School (part of Box Hill Institute) and tried to create our own platformer game. For those of you who don’t know what a platformer game is, it is a 2D video game like Mario or Sonic, where you can go left/right or up/down but you can’t go closer or further back in depth.

After we made our game (with exploding rocks and personalised backgrounds) we also got to put on the goggles and play our game in VR (virtual reality). Then we played other 3D games that they had like a game called 'Oogie' where you get to play as a Beetle (named Oogie) and have to protect yourself from ants in order to find your mate.

VCE FRENCH EXCURSION

BY DANIEL DEMA  (FRENCH TEACHER)

Life in VCE is not always stressful. We also know how to enjoy ourselves in an immersed context. Just last week, our VCE French classes spent a lovely day out, watching a French movie called "Fly Me Away", based on a true story about the unlikely friendship between a disabled boy and his irresponsible carer.

After that, we had lunch in a creperie serving traditional French food in an ambiance of French music, French decorations and French-speaking waiters. The crepes were delicious as always, and some of the most daring students even tried the famous Galettes aux escargots - snail crepes :)

À la prochaine fois!

YEAR 12 VCAL & PREPS - AFL FUN

BY CALEB LOBBE  (SECONDARY SPORT'S CO ORDINATOR)

On Tuesday morning, the Year 12 VCAL class had a great time helping out with an AFL clinic that was run by AFL Victoria coaches for Prep students.

The VCAL class is currently preparing for a lesson they will run for Prep students in Term 2, and this was used as an opportunity to observe teaching techniques and to interact with the Preps they will be teaching in future.

At first, some of the Year 12 students were feeling shy, and by the end of the lesson every Year 12 was working alongside a prep student playing games like Scarecrow Handball Tiggy, Rob the Nest and more.

It was wonderful to see the interaction between the youngest and oldest students in the school and a great encouragement to all who were there!
