YEAR 9

Year 9 Visual Arts students have explored the artmaking practice of painting. Students have examined Vanita paintings which are symbolic works which explores life, death, wealth and ephemerality of people. Vainta’s found their origins in the Netherlands in the 16th and 17th Centuries.

 

Students are adding their own contemporary items to the compositions which they have developed throughout the term. Students have explored a range of artists and other related imagery in developing their understanding of Vanities and complexity of symbolism used in artworks.

 

Year 9 Artmaking Elective, The Artist, students have worked diligently throughout Term 1. The first project of the year was creating bamboo and tissue paper sculptures. The sculptures were of a large scale and shapes using obtuse angles. Lights were added to highlight the angles.

 

The second project of the year has been a collaborative project, creating a village of cardboard Favelas. The sculptures busyness illustrated the cramped nature of this type of housing. Students have completed watercolour workshops and activities portraying the Favela still life created.

YEAR 10

Year 10 Visual Arts have created portrait through painting during the term. Students have had creative individuality to develop, reflect, evaluate and compose their own portrait on a stretched canvas. Students have worked through problems and developed a range of techniques through critical discussions about the progress of their work. A significant part of their learning involves research of artists through history, which also highlights the techniques and different compositions aspects which artists have used over time, including the reason behind the work.

YEAR 12

Year 12 Visual Arts students have begun the Body of Work journey. The Body of Work is the centerpiece of the their individual artmaking practice. Students are at different phases of the journey while some are still developing their concepts, others have started creating their projects.

 

The students are using a range of expressive forms including printmaking, drawing and painting. Year 12 have had a significant focus on New Media art which has been explored this term with a specific focus on postmodern sculptor, inventor, scientist and artist Stelarc. Students have completed a response to how New Media artists are influenced by time and place in their artmaking practice.
