Visual Arts

YEAR 7

Year 7 Visual Arts students have been introduced to the Elements of Art and how to apply them when making, discussing and describing artworks.

Students have examined 20th Century Art movements in particular Impressionism and Cubism and specifically investigating French Impressionist Claude Monet, the Father of Impressionism and what is widely viewed as the start of the Modern art period.

Students have planned and created both a Cubist and Impressionist style artwork based on the techniques and applying the elements and principles of art. Currently, Year 7 have been working through their individual concepts, evaluating ideas and providing feedback on their own composition.

YEAR 8

Year 8 have explored the various ways  Australian art and artists including John Olsen and Emily Kame Kngwarreye have portrayed the landscape and culture. Students have discovered how art can tell a story, send a message to the viewer and to convey our culture and identity.

They have used controlled paint pouring in a John Olsen inspired artwork to create an abstract landscape painting of Lake Albert, explored the style and technique of  Emily Kngwarreye, illustrating a Wiradjuri story, and designed their own set of personal symbols and experimented with different painting techniques to applying to their own story compositions.

This week they have been busily finishing of their canvas for exhibition later in the year, before moving onto the design and process of lino printing.
