RE Newsletter

Dear Families,

Welcome back to another term of fun, learning and faith development.

Celebrating Grandparents

During this term, we will be celebrating the wonderful gift of our grandparents and honouring these special people in our lives during assembly in Week 2.  Since being at SJW, I have come to realise not only the active role that the grandparents in this community play in the lives of their grandchildren, but also how very special and valued they are by our students.

Preparing for Confirmation

Also this term, our senior students will begin their preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation.  Our Year 6 students will be celebrating this special sacrament and milestone in their faith journey later in the term.  On August 8th, we especially remember Mary MacKillop by celebrating her feast day.  Our students in SLA have committed to learning more about Mary MacKillop, who is Australia’s first and only saint.  They will be attending an excursion to the Mary MacKillop Centre in the city and following the journey she took and the wonderful contributions she made to struggling children and their families in the 1800’s.

Anyone interested in learning more about Mary MacKillop can find out via this link… https://www.sosj.org.au/our-story/saint-mary-mackillop/

Making Jesus Real - WEST

At St Joseph the Worker, we put great emphasis on Making Jesus Real.  This is both a program and a philosophy that encourages students not just to just be content with learning about Jesus and His teachings but also to live out these scripture messages.

Each term students are nominated for showing any of our WEST qualities which are to be… Welcoming, Encouraging students, who say Thank you and Sorry when needed.

This term, the students appearing on our WEST Wall of Fame are……

Gian Conti – Prep

For recognising when his peers require comfort and offering them support and encouragement.

Lily Cafari – JLA

For showing kindness and concern for others when they are not feeling comfortable.

Alanah Catalano - MLA

For being welcoming to our new student and always being willing to help others.

Jessica Hazelwood-Smith - SLA

For being a kind and caring classmate who includes others and encourages them.

We would like to both congratulate and thank these students for the wonderful example they show all of us and for Making Jesus Real for others.

God Bless

Pauline Turnbull REL
