THRIVE

Our THRIVE program continues to be interwoven in everything we do. The diaries and curriculum activities are a great basis for continuing discussions around each of the values.

Sarah Roney, our Network leader has been in a number of classes running THRIVE activities based on our THRIVE curriculum.

Our  current THRIVE goals are listed below:

  • Relate Well–think of 3 things I can do to make a positive experience
  • Get Involved–describe three things I want to learn more about
  • Live Your Values- Drink plenty of water daily.

Bella our Therapy Dog

Bella continues to be a huge hit with everyone. She’s not quite sketching and painting in the art room, but she certainly is providing lots of joy. She is out in the yard before school, on the days she is here and is very helpful in settling anxious students and helping them to have a better day. I think she gets a lot of joy from the pats as she’s often seen snuggling into the students.

Breakfast Club Baskets are a great hit. The Department provides school with milk and fruit and we have some volunteer bakers making breakfast muffins with other ingredients. We are working with Coles to see if they can help to sponsor our program. Our Health Ambassadors and their teacher mentors are managing the program with great enthusiasm and diligence. Goodies are available at 830, as we try to support students who may not have had any breakfast.

Our Health Ambassadors are also managing the ‘ Pride Project’  in trying to keep our yard tidy. Bunnings kindly donated buckets and tongs for the projects so classes can clean up rubbish around their room. Teachers are encouraging students to eat inside and to put their wrappers in the bin before they go outside. Students purchasing from the canteen are encouraged to make sure their rubbish goes into the bin also.

SRC are encouraging more students to have a voice in how they would like to improve their school. SRC year level leaders have made suggestion boxes and placed them in their class areas. They will monitor the content and discuss at their SRC meetings.  They have also organised a fundraiser for June 24 - see our SRC page

The Little People, Big Feelings is a FREE webinar for parents with me, Dr Justin Coulston, who love their children, but don’t love the emotional upheavals that so often accompany them. In it I’ll share my practical, real-world tips and strategies for how you can stay calm in the moment, connect with your child and manage that meltdown like the parenting pro you are.  Research-backed and science based, this one hour FREE webinar is designed for parents, carers and educators of children around six and under who are ready to go from out of control to confidently calm.

Some Buddy programs between senior and junior school have restarted. Currently the Year 5s are buddied up with Prep students. The Year 6s are looking at working with the Year 1s. They complete activities together on a regular basis. It’s a lovely way to develop nurturing relationships between students and add to further support in the yard.  Our Year 5 Playleaders are in the yard every day running lunchtime activities for junior school. This is a highly successful program. We are looking at expanding our yard/club program for term 3. We will use the blue carpet area for quiet activities such as drawing, reading, games. We will open up the library for some clubs also. More details to come.

Our Berry Street Education model PD has been unpacked throughout our school. We are continuing to build consistent language and wellbeing practices. Our Berry Street work has included Welcoming Circles and Ready To Learn strategies. They are having a positive impact on our students, getting them off to a great start each day, building stronger relationships with their teachers and providing strategies to identify how ‘ready to learn’ a student is. We have another Curriculum Day about the next stage of this program on the first day of term 3 (July 11). This will be a pupil free day.
