Visioning Affordable Housing

We have partnered with Committee for Echuca Moama (C4EM) and the University of Melbourne to understand what affordable housing looks like for our young people.
This innovative project has been funded by Hallmark Research Institute, University of Melbourne and is part of an intergenerational visioning of affordable housing in the Echuca Moama region, to support strategic and sustainable housing plans for the future.
This project has been an amazing opportunity for our Year 10 design students and we are incredibly proud of the commitment they have shown and the quality of work they have produced at an introductory to architecture level.
This has included drawing floor plans and creating models for a specific target audience, along with a 100-word description explaining their exhibit.
The students' designs featured sustainable and affordable materials to build with but also included elements to make the properties cheaper to live in long term, such as solar panels, and using glass for heating or cooling and lighting purposes.
The visioning housing affordability project also provided the perfect opportunity for students to apply their skills in a real life setting that aligns with our 'Living Justice - Living Peace' charter, prompting us to walk in solidarity with vulnerable people.
An exhibition of these works was launched last Friday 10 June at Rich River Golf Club.
Visitors had the opportunity to vote on their preferred exhibit and the winners will be announced at our whole school assembly next Tuesday.
