Library News

Last week we said ‘au revoir’ to Mrs McLaughlan as she takes some well-earned long service leave.

Before she waved us good-bye, we asked her a few questions:

How long have you worked at St Joseph’s College?

25 years

What changes to the College stand out for you?

The school has grown! When I started we had 450 students and about 49 staff. Now there are nearly 1,000 students and 140 plus staff. There have been lots of new buildings in the last 25 years.  When I started the library was upstairs Tullow.

How has your job changed in that time?

My role has changed from part-time to full-time. I was half-time Audiovisual Technician back in the days of TV recording, DVD players and televisions on trolleys. A lot of my time was spent in this area. When I first started, there were three computers in the school and they were in the library.

You are taking leave – what are you going to do with your time away?

My husband and I plan on a bit of travel and we also plan to paint the inside of the house. Maybe if the weather is fine we might go fishing – and lots of reading!

We wish Mrs McLaughlan a very happy, restful and refreshing break.

Take lots of photos of your travels to share when you return!

Because it was a bit shelf-ish.

NEW BOOKS:

Regular deliveries of new books arrive in the library. Our latest batch has been catalogued and covered just in time for students to grab some great holiday reading.

Check out the shelves near the front door, snaffle a new book, then you’re ready to curl up under the doona and while away a chilly winter’s day.

Of special interest to those who enjoy the amazing, the weird and the wonderful, the library has just bought the latest edition of the  Guinness Book of Records. It is on display until the last day of term, at which time the first student to ask for the GBR may take it home for the holidays.

Wishing everyone a very enjoyable winter break!
