Term 2 Italian

We have had another great term of wonderful learning in Italian.

Preps

Our preps began learning the colours in Italian and linked it to what they see around them. They used common phrases like “Io vedo” (I see…) to describe what they see in their school environment each day. They particularly enjoyed wearing their star glasses while discovering the colours in the school yard and amongst nature.

Year 1 and 2

Year 1 and 2’s explored words and phrases associated with how they are feeling and their emotions. They enjoyed role playing activities and learning a new song called Emozioni.

Year 3 and 4

Year 3 and 4’s continued building on their everyday functional language with the assistance of gestures. They also began a cultural unit about The Italian festival of Light. The students recorded their wonderings, posed questions to direct their own learning on what they wanted to know. They then researched and answered their questions and wonderings. This special Italian festival which takes place each July will be then linked to art work the students will create which will be displayed at the whole school art show.

Year 5 and 6

Year 5 and 6 continued to extend their use of the word ‘POSSO’ ( Can I ) to create their own phrases to promote  Italian conversation to take place in the classroom. Particular focus was creating phrases linked to everyday classroom talk where ‘posso’ is used. They participated in a variety of activities and games which allowed them to use the language within context. It was great to hear conversations taking place in Italian amongst students. The photos below show the students playing a game of ‘Vai a pescare’ (Go Fish) where the aim was to speak as much Italian as possible and use functional language we have focused on this term while playing the game.
