Tasmanian State All Schools Secondary Cross Country
Fourteen secondary students travelled to Symmons Plains on Tuesday last week to compete in the State All Schools Cross-country carnival. They are all highly commended for their efforts, not just with the way they participated in their events, but with their overall commitment to represent the school. They were all very well behaved, respectful to teachers and officials and helpful with the tent set up and pack down. All these elements of the day made for an enjoyable experience for everyone.
A student reflection sums it all up:
‘After a super fun bus ride with friends, we arrived at the Symmons Plains. It was super cold and the ground was muddy, but that didn’t stop us from trying our best and having a lot of fun. I’m glad for the people that took part and I strongly encourage others to take part in the future.’

Student Article - 'It’s All About The Attitude'
To work, is an incredible gift. I know just by saying that I’ve lost most of you because who really cares? But I think it’s at least important to think about the gift of work, and why we work. Work can mean all sorts of things, but today I’m mostly talking about schoolwork, homework, or teaching. As we consider these topics, most of us are automatically shrugging our shoulders and rolling our eyes.
We trudge through life in a never-ending cycle of waiting for the work to stop, and retirement to begin! But what if we changed our outlook just a little bit. Perhaps we can consider work as a gift and an opportunity instead of simply a means to an end.
Each day we are presented with different tasks and challenges, but I think that if we view these as opportunities and encourage ourselves to be creative in the things that we do, we can make work enjoyable. Because truly work can be fun if we allow ourselves an open mind and an innocent, selfless viewpoint.
So, in consideration of this, maybe we could try to smile as we undo the dishwasher, rather than complaining, and see the impact it has. We could take an example from Snow White and literally ‘whistle while we work’ on our homework. Who knows what could happen? We might even enjoy ourselves……

TCE News for Years 10-12
Year 11/12 UTAS speaker
Samantha Anderson from UTAS joined the Year 11/12 students yesterday to present information about UTAS degrees and double degrees, applications, scholarships, accommodation, and the Schools Recommendation program. Most students had attended the Year 12 Leaver's day at UTAS on Sunday 3 July. They were ready with a range of specific and general questions about degrees, gap years, HECS, the UTAS communities and studying overseas.
All the students were appreciative of the information and for the opportunity to have their questions answered by Samantha. A special thank you to Samantha for her regular yearly visits and the help given to all our students over the past few years. Samantha is taking up a new position at UTAS and will no longer be involved in liaising with our students.
