From the Incoming Principal

From the Incoming Principal

It is an honour to have been appointed as the next Principal of Southern Christian College and I look forward to the start of Term 3 when I will officially join the College community.

I want to begin by acknowledging the remarkable work of those who have made the school what it is today, from the vision of the original founders, the committed and inspirational leadership of Alan Lawson during his fifteen years as Principal, to the many staff, students and parents who have invested time, energy and heart into building a thriving school. I also recognise the outstanding work of Todd Barker and the Executive team, as they have led the College so capably this semester. I am delighted to be working with such experienced, wise and dedicated educators.

I am excited by the opportunity to lead a school community with a genuine commitment to the holistic development of young people through rich, engaging and future-focused learning experiences. Central to this is the importance of establishing firm foundations for students through a Christ-centred education. It is a special privilege to share with children and young people the message that the Creator of all loves us so dearly that He sent His Son to ensure we could each experience a renewed relationship with Him.

As an educator and a parent, I recognise the value of providing students with a balanced education, that supports excellence in subject-specific knowledge and skills while also fostering student awareness of themselves as a learner, their personal strengths and how they can learn most effectively. As I come to know more about the College, it has been a delight to see these principles embedded throughout academic programs, extra-curricular activities, service and leadership programs.

I have asked many people, both members of the school and those within the wider community, what they see as the defining qualities of Southern Christian College. Consistently, the culture of care that underpins relationships has been the dominant response. It has been a delight to hear of the supportive relationships among students, staff and families.

My priority through the rest of 2022 is to develop a deeper understanding of the College and to establish connections with students, staff and parents. I look forward to getting to know each of the students and hope to meet many members of the parent community over the coming months.
