How The World Works

As part of our new Unit of Inquiry, ‘How the world works’, Year 6 Students took part in a ‘Design Sprint’ to ready themselves for our upcoming Exhibition in Term 3.

Students looked into the story of the Three Little Pigs and were posed with the problem statement of, ‘The materials used were too weak, unstable or fragile to withstand strong winds’.

Students used the Design Phase (pictured below) to support their learning.

They investigated current building materials that are available worldwide and used these to generate a plan of how their ‘new building’ would withstand strong winds.

Students worked collaboratively to design and then create these ‘buildings’ which were then put to the test with ‘strong winds/ leaf blower’.

All of their research, plans and final products were documented on OneNote.

Students thoroughly enjoyed the day and eagerly participated in all activities.
