Dance Around the World Incursion

The Year Two students had a terrific day on Monday when they participated in their rescheduled Dance Around the World incursion.  We hope that you enjoy our videos of us learning the dances.

Our new Unit of Inquiry is: The past influences our present and our future. During the rest of the term we will be investigating family and religious celebrations and traditions from around the world.

We will also be looking at how family celebrations have changed and the reasons people migrate.

The incursion introduced the students to traditional dances from Spain, India, Japan and Greece. Each dance contained various aspects of that culture. For example the Spanish dance contained dance moves of the famous Flamenco. The students were given 45 minutes to learn their dance before they performed it in the finale in front of the rest of the grade after lunch.

2A were lucky enough to be able to perform their Spanish dance to Mrs Duffy during one of her tours around the school.

The students then completed a reflection on the incursion. They talked about what some of the similarities and difference were between each dance and why they were unique to that country.

One of the best things I liked about the Dance incursion was watching other students perform their dance routine. I also really liked that we got to learn other country’s dances.”

“It was the first time we got to learn a type of Flamenco. Like when you shook your hands out wide and we did the bendy banana and also when we performed the big circle.”

"On the day of Dance around the World we all did a dance and different ones from all around the world. It presented that every one is different and people can do the same, love is the same, our bones are the same, but our personalities aren’t the same. We, 2B did Greek dancing'.
