Principals Report

This year Beaumaris North primary school has endeavoured to further strengthen our knowledge and understanding of our Australian Aboriginal, and Torres Strait Islander Peoples by starting the year with an Acknowledgement to the custodians of the land through an art installation work of shields and an Acknowledgement plaque of the Land owners the Boonwurrang People.

Please see photos of our students artworks to celebrate Arnhem Land on the Art page.

Parents’ and Friends Election Day BBQ and Cake Stall

I would like to sincerely thank Nat Northey for organising our  Parents’ and Friends Election Day BBQ and Cake Stall.

A big thank you to all the people who helped make our Election Day BBQ and Cake Stall a success.  Whether you baked, helped bag and tag the goodies, manned the BBQ or came along and bought some goodies on the day – thank you.

We managed to raise over $2,500 which will go towards the purchase of a second new cubby house for the playground.

A great effort and so nice to see the community come together to make the day such a success.

Nat is doing a wonderful job re-igniting the Parents and Friends Club.  We have a very dedicated and enthusiastic group of parents who are planning a variety of special activities and events for both students and their families.

If you wish to become involved, please contact Nat.  After two years of very strict restrictions, we are now moving forward with our parental involvement in so many areas.  Thanks Nat.

Student Illness

The flu bug has come early to BNPS.  The last two weeks we have had many students and staff absent due to illness.  If your child is presenting as unwell in the morning please keep them at home.  We are finding that each morning we are having to contact families to come and collect their children.

Ambulance Cover

At times of accidents or illness, the school may be required to call an ambulance to transport a student, staff member, or community member to hospital.

All staff and families are encouraged to have up-to-date ambulance cover.

At times of accident or illness, a first aid trained staff member/s in attendance will confer and make a decision as to whether or not they should request the attendance of the ambulance service. In doing so, the health and safety of the patient will be the only determining factor.

Ambulance membership, or potential costs to families will not be a point of consideration. Parents (or next of kin for an adult) will always be contacted as soon as possible so that they may be in attendance when the ambulance arrives.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Class room teachers are looking forward to discussing your child’s progression in the upcoming online Parent-Teacher Interviews on Tuesday 14 June. These interviews will be conducted online via Microsoft Teams using a new format which is different to previous online parent meetings.

Bookings will be available to be made via the Compass app from Wednesday 8 June and will close on Friday 10 June, COB.

To make a booking, simply tap the main menu button on the Compass App, in the top left (three horizontal bars) and selecting 'Conferences' or via the browser/desktop version of Compass by clicking on the alert at the top of your News Feed.

Instructions on how to access your interview online will be sent out on Monday 13 June.

Incursions and Excursions

It is lovely to see the children experience Incursions and Excursion again. This term so far we have had;

Year 3 Incursion - Unit of Inquiry Incursion

Ian Hunter  an Elder of the Indigenous Wurundjeri people of Melbourne and outer lying areas spoke about indigenous culture and language to tie in with the current Year 3 Unit of Inquiry “Where we are in place and time”

The Central idea: Cultures change over time.

Year 4 Excursion

The Year 4 students went on an excursion to the city yesterday.

This excursion was part of their Unit of Inquiry “Where we are in place and time.”   The Central idea was exploration leads to discoveries, opportunities, and new understandings.

The students visited Cooks cottage in the Fitzroy Gardens and visited the Immigration Museum.

There are so many lovely photos of the students enjoying this excursion on the Year 4 page and a cute video.

Year 2  Incursion - Dance Around the World

This incursion was part of their Unit of Inquiry with the Transdisciplinary Theme of  “Who We Are”   The Central Idea: A balanced lifestyle is influenced by the choices people make.

This workshop encourages the children to express themselves through dance while learning an appreciation for the customs and dance styles of some of the many different cultures around the World.

Each class  learnt a different style of dance.2A   Spanish, 2B  Greek, 2C  Japanese, 2D  Indian.

The students shared their dances with the other year 2 classes in the finale at the end of the day.

I hope you enjoy their videos on the Year 2 page.

Your Help Is Needed Please

We are currently having a huge issue with dog droppings on the oval.  The Year 3 student have been placing posters around our school in the hope that dog owners who use our oval after school will be respectful of our school oval.

If you see dog owners with dogs  off lease can you please direct them to the signs around the school that clearly state dogs must be kept on a lead and that owners must clean up after their dog. Our children are having an ongoing issue with dirty shoes as a result of this issue.
