MATHS IS EVERYWHERE!

On the 23rd of March, St Joey’s took on World Maths Day with so much energy and enthusiasm! Each year level was provided with tasks and activities to complete whilst demonstrating our theme this year - ‘Maths Is Everywhere!’ We were beyond excited to see how the students interacted and engaged in the learning activities while having fun and collaborating with each other.

The preps were StoryBots inspired, creating and sorting different 2D and 3D shapes. They also ventured out into the yard to complete the Shape Treasure Hunt.

The Juniors jumped into the Number Blocks world and problem solved as a team to find the missing part of the magic mirror. They used their friends of 10 knowledge, rebuilt shapes and looked at part-whole relationships.

The Middles worked with the characters from Cyberchase and used their fraction knowledge to help the team share items fairly in Ancient Greece. They also demonstrated their fraction understanding in an intense game of Fraction Bingo!

The Seniors worked on budgeting with different amounts of money. A fictional store was put together and using addition with dollars and cents, the students had to figure out how many products they could purchase. As a class, the seniors worked together on running a digital lemonade stand. They had to purchase different ingredients and look at the weather to see how their lemonade stand would be affected.

There were also some fabulous contributions to our ‘Maths Is Everywhere’ wall, displayed outside the prep room. Some notable additions included focusing on the Maths in engineering, weather, cooking and technology. Feel free to continue to add to the wall if you feel inspired!

Thank you to all the teachers and students who made World Maths Day such a success!
