Fisher Excursion

Fisher Bike Ride and Tree Planting Excursion

On the 1st of May approximately 100 Fisher students went on a 5km bike ride to Patawalonga Creek to help the Conservation Volunteers Australia group plant trees.  The Fisher students were divided into 4 groups and went at different times. When we finally got there, we put our bikes down, took a drink and the instructors gave us information about the land (Patawalonga Creek) and gave a safety talk. After that they divided us into 3 more groups and then they showed us the steps of planting. With shovels and gloves we planted various grasses and shrubs. Inside the hole we sprinkled fertilizer and water crystals that help keep the water around the roots. Once the plants were in the soil we made guards to protect them so they can grow. Even though we watered them the soil was so dry that the rain that came two days later was very much welcomed.

Many students, plus Mr Tarleton and M Clayton got punctures from three-corner jacks but it was still a great experience and was really fun thanks to all the staff members that came along!

We’d also like to thank the following parents who rode with us on the day

Adrian Sramek, Kathy Gasparin, Tracey Noblet, Helen Lind, Sally Hannan, David Dawson
