Welcome Back
Welcome back to the start of term 2. We hope that you enjoyed the beautiful weather over the holidays and had a chance to share some outdoor time with your children. We have a really busy term once again with NAPLAN tests for Years 3, 5 and 7 beginning Tuesday 15th may through to Thursday 17th May; a number of classes students having excursions that build on their learning programs; a Parent Education Evening in week 6, academic progress reports distributed to families on Friday of week 9 and Torrens camp in week 10.
Knockout sports begin this term and this Friday we have the girls and boys soccer teams playing Fulham North PS on the oval. The girls kick off at 9:40am and the boys at 10:45am. The girls KO netball team have their first game in the gym on Friday 18th May at 1pm against Henley Beach PS.
It would be great to see parents and community members at the school supporting our students at these games.
Please keep a lookout on the iNewsletter upcoming event page, Skoolbag and Facebook for specific dates of events.
NAPLAN
Next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are NAPLAN testing days for the years 3, 5 and 7 students. These are national tests that students across Australia in these year levels undertake. The tests are marked by national panels and the detailed responses to your child’s attainment are provided late in term 3.
The tests start sharp at 9.15am each morning so please ensure your child is at school on time. If you have a child in another year level please be mindful of the testing that is underway. We encourage all students to really persevere and give their best efforts.
The test measures literacy and numeracy and how your child is performing in these areas at this early stage of the academic year. At years 5 and 7 they also measure the growth in learning for your child.
Hats
Over the past week, we have undertaken a review of our Sun Smart Guidelines through the Cancer Council SA.
The Cancer Council SA School Guidelines stipulate that:
'All students and staff wear a hat that gives good cover to the face, neck and ears whenever they are outside during terms 1, 3 and 4, and when the UV level is 3 and above outside of these times. Broad-brimmed, legionnaire or bucket style hats are recommended. Baseball caps are not acceptable'
Please note that since the beginning of term every day has had a UV level above 3, including the rest of this week. The long-range forecast has it 3 or above into next week as well.
Due to this, we will be implementing the wearing of hats all year round during Recess and Lunch. This will prevent any confusion and make it standard practice.LNPS has a duty of care to protect students from overexposure to UV radiation, and skin damage can occur on a cloudy overcast day without any sign of sunburn.
Showdown Fundrasier
This Friday is the Showdown Fundraiser. We have over 300 'Showdown Donuts' being order.
We also have casual clothes happening when students are able to wear their 'Footy Colours' by donating a gold coin.
All funds raised through the donuts and casual clothes will be donated to the Salvation Army.
Well done to the group of Year 6 students who have organised this event.
Dogs at School
Just a reminder to families that dogs are not permitted on the school grounds. We appreciate your understanding with this matter.
Food Allergy Week
Food allergy week will be held from 13-19 May 2018 and aims to increase awareness of life threatening food allergy in the community, in an effort to promote understanding and help protect those at risk.
