Senior Report (5/6)

Wominjeka from the GUMNUT COMMUNITY - Tom & Tien

STUDYING OUR SENSES

The Senior Learning Community had an engaging and productive term 3 of play and learning. This term our focus has moved to our senses. Students have been immersed in learning about our bodies senses, making fantastic connections during Literacy and Numeracy sessions. Students have used their critical thinking skills to challenge our senses whilst achieving our learning goals. We have also developed empathy for others as we have compromised our senses at times to challenge our learning. Learning experiences such as this allow our KINDNESS to shine. It brings us JOY to see how much we accomplish in our learning each day at Wollert Primary School.

MAD CLUB

After successfully raising over $150 for the Royal Melbourne Hospital our MAD (Make a difference) club members have turned their attention to the Diversity Colour Run. We are investigating ways to help out during the event as well as making suggestions for activity stations during the run! We are so proud of our MAD clubbers who show the Wollert Way in their commitment to kindness and helping others!

Any interested students who would like to join the MAD club should come to our meetings! Meetings are every Friday at Recess in 5/6A (Tom's Classroom).

CAMP

In Week 3 of Term 4, 51 Wollert Primary School students set off for Angahook Holiday Camp in Aireys Inlet.

Our students showed fantastic resilience as the weather was often interfering with our schedule. Our students showed the Wollert Way by remaining positive and thankfully all students were able to complete some of the camps most exciting activities...including the GIANT SWING!

Our Senior students showed such BRILLIANCE and KINDNESS by supporting each other and our middle school students as many on the camp had limited experience being away from home. Our students and staff worked tirelessly to spread JOY in challenging circumstances.

Whilst our Campers were well and truly exhausted by Friday afternoon, conversations at school have shown CURIOSITY as to when and where our next opportunity for school camp will take place.

Numeracy

In mathematics, students have been focusing on open ended questions through a range of maths concepts, for example, requiring them to balance number sentences. They have had the opportunity to use their problem-solving skills to find and determine unknown quantities in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems. Students were also able to use their prior knowledge of angles to estimate, classify and measure by creating angles using their whole body.

Literacy

In literacy, our students have used their prior knowledge of information reports to create a piece on a chosen country and natural disaster. They have used their researching skills to plan their report following a structure. Students have developed their skills in descriptive language to up-level their sentences to make them more interesting for their audience. They have been developing and consolidating a range of reading skills through our independent and guided reading processes.  Students are encouraged to read at least 5 nights a week as part of our home reading program.

Basketball Clinic

We have been extremely lucky to have had Basketball Victoria visit our school.  The coaches of Basketball Victoria taught our students basketball skills in an engaging way through play.  This was exclusive only to the middle and senior community.  Students were BRILLIANT when they attended the clinic and they showed lots of respect to the coaches.

Friday Fun Day

Friday’s have been a continuous highlight for our whole school community, particularly to our senior students.  Students have been involved in range of programs, such as Active movement, Respectful Relationships and G.E.M (Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness). It has been wonderful seeing how KIND our students have been through these programs when they work with their immediate peers and others in the school.
