Performing Arts Matters
Where do I start? Last night’s 85th Anniversary Concert was special for so many reasons.
First and foremost, the students
They were so wonderfully cooperative, happy and most of all their talent was so amazing they left everyone in awe.
The staff
They exemplified what can happen when you have such a fantastic relationship with the students and each other.
The parents
Not only do they provide the students with such wonderful opportunities to excel in the performing arts, they can also cook a mean BBQ.
St Pius X
What a great team. Everyone at the school in some way had a hand in last night and it exemplifies the saying, “it takes a village".
Thank you to PAPA and Mrs Michelle Godfrey and her team not only for last night but for the many ways the parents support the student of this great College. The many ways I see our parents support both students and teachers serves as an inspiration to everyone.
I would like to single out our support staff and their support for Performing Arts. In particular, Mrs Marilyn McHugh our Performing Arts Assistant who works in the margins that count. Thank you, Marilyn. Also, our publicity team of Mrs Felicity Barrett and Mrs Tracy Bradley who provided the fantastic program and publicity materials. Felicity was also on hand to take photos on the night.
I know that once you start naming names that you run the risk of missing some one out. So all I will say to my wonderful colleagues is thank you, for the many things that you did to help on the night.
Special thanks also go to Mrs Jill Greenwood and the Junior School teachers for their support of the evening. No one will forget the start of the concert and our wonderful combined junior school choir.
Lastly, I would like to thank Mr John Couani and the Leadership Team for their support and guidance both to the Performing Arts Department and myself. The concert certainly was not an accident and through their guidance and support we were able to let the students shine.
Once again, thank you all .
PS See you at the Concourse soon.

Review for The Picture of Dorian Gray at Sydney Theatre Company
Please read the outstanding review by Zavier Domenici in Year 11 below. The task was to write a review as it might appear in a blog for young people. After discussions about the play and relevant research Zavier submitted his work. Theatre Reviews are one of the Major Works offered at HSC and below is a really good example of what that work might look like. For the HSC students prepare four reviews of 800 words from different productions in Australia.
“Ernie’s Incredible Illucinations” at the 85th Anniversary Concert.
What great costumes we had for the 85th Anniversary Concert!!! We were so lucky to be in the position to have The Wardrobe costume hire in Chatswood provide us with our costumes. I have used them for many years now and the costumes are so authentic. The three scenes performed on the night incorporate a few different worlds, so it is important the correct costume is used to indicate character and setting.
Thank you to Mrs Emma Fryer and Mrs Jacqui Loughman who assisted me in liaising with the students and the hire shop. To put on a performance such as last night's, there are many jobs that go on behind the scenes.
Students with speaking roles also had the opportunity to use radio mics and this is a great bonus in terms of acting experience and being heard by the large audience in such a big space. We hope you enjoyed the performance and that you don’t suffer from illucinations yourself!
