Kitchen Garden News

Kitchen and Garden program wrap

With Year 3-6 back at school over the past fortnight, the garden has once again been filled with happy faces at work and play! Year 4 and 6 classes have each had a garden and (modified) kitchen session since returning to school.

In the garden we kept busy and warm with some essential tasks such as bed preparation, composting, and giving the chickens a run in the orchard.

Students found the kitchen sessions VERY different to Term 1, as food sharing is off the table (so to speak!) for this period of time. However, we were able to do a delicious soup taste test and persuasive writing activity, nasturtium leaf maths, and each student rolled and ate their own rice paper roll.

Kitchen help wanted - end of term

The kitchen needs a thorough end-of-term clean and tidy - ovens, cupboards, fridges, dusting etc. I would really appreciate some adult helpers for this, but with current restrictions this will need to be outside of school hours. If you are able to help on Thursday 25th June at 3:45pm, for 30-45 mins, please email me: camille.mewett@education.vic.gov.au

Garden help wanted

Garden help from our community is still very much appreciated! Please email me if you would like to contribute to a project in our garden (currently this would need to be outside of school hours or on a weekend) - this could be something small such as weeding or tending to a garden bed, or something bigger like fruit tree pruning or compost turning. There are many and varied tasks on offer! e: camille.mewett@education.vic.gov.au
