Return to School

The transition and return to school of our Year 3-6 students went well this week.

Teachers were excited to see their class return and students were happy to see their teacher and to be able to spend time with their friends again.

For pick up at the end of the day, please make sure your child knows which gate you are going to pick them up from.

Gates

For drop off and pick up times the four school gates will continue to be open:-

  • the Bradford Avenue gate that leads to the portables.
  • the Bradford Avenue gate to the office.
  • the Langton Way gate behind the Gym.
  • the gate from the laneway that leads onto our school oval.

Gates will be unlocked just before 8:30am and then relocked at 9:00am except for the one nearest the office. Staff will be on duty at each gate both in the morning and in the afternoon. School will officially start at 9:00am

Parents – thank you for your cooperation with the request not to enter the school grounds.

Teachers will continue to walk the Foundation students to the basketball courts. They will be dismissed from there when their parent arrives at the gate or they are picked up by an older sibling who can walk them out of the school.

Year 1 to Year 6 students will be dismissed from their classroom. If your child is in Year 1 to 6, and you have a Foundation students also, it might be easier for pick up if your Year 1 to 6 child makes their way to the basketball court to meet with their Foundation sibling.

Student Semester 1 Reports

Our teachers are currently finalising the Semester 1 reports for their students however, due to the unusual circumstances, we have made some changes to these reports at Greenvale Primary School.  The Department of Education and Training has adjusted the expectations of Student Reports for Semester 1 in recognition of the transition to remote and flexible learning during Term 2.  While our school has continued to deliver its teaching and learning program and monitor the achievement and progress of each student, there have been some unprecedented changes to our usual program.

Each student enrolled at our school for Semester 1 will receive a written report. The reports will include information on student achievement for each curriculum area taught; however, there are some changes from our usual Semester 1 reports.  Student reports for Semester 1, 2020 will include:          - A description of the areas of the Victorian Curriculum F-10 taught

  • Teacher judgements of student learning outcomes using a five-point scale based on the Victorian Curriculum F-10 and how the student has adjusted to the remote and flexible learning environment.
  • A general teacher comment on the student's overall progress

Student Reports will be available on line at Compass on Friday 26 June, in readiness for the Student/Parent/Teacher interviews. You will have the opportunity to discuss your child's report with your child’s teacher on Wednesday 29th July, which is early in Term 3. This year, the interviews will be done by phone between the 10.30am and finishing at 7pm. Parents will not be asked to come to school to speak with the teacher face to face. Interview booking processes will be online and the same as in previous years. This will be a student free day and students will not attend school. You will receive more information on this at a later date.

Curriculum Day

On Wednesday 24th June, students will not be required at school. This is a Curriculum Day and all staff will be at school working in their teams to plan the curriculum and learning for Term 3.

If you require supervision for your child on that day, TheirCare are organising a whole day program in our Community Room. If your child is not currently enrolled in our TheirCare program and you require care, you may do this by contacting them on 1300 072 410 or do this online on their website.

Our School Crossings - Please use them

Keep our students AND YOUR CHILD safe!

Over the last few weeks, with our staggered drop off and pick up times, I have been at the school gates every day for a considerable amount of time.

It never ceases to shock me to see a parent with their child/ren in tow weaving between the incredibly busy traffic in the morning on Bradford Avenue or Langton Way to get to the school yard or back to the car in the afternoon.

Parents – please teach your child how to use the supervised school crossing before and after school even if it means you have further to walk. What are you teaching their child/ren about crossing a road safely if you are weaving between cars? What do you think your child/ren might do next time when they are on their own and need to cross the road before or after school?

Foundation Tours for 2021 Enrolments

Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, all tours and enrolment sessions for our new Foundation students for 2021 have been cancelled until further notice. We are hoping that further enrolment tours can take place later in Term 3 or early Term 4.

If you would like to do an enrolment application please call the office on 9333 2500 and we will get some details from you and post out an enrolment application form. Once completed, you can return it with the required documents into our school letterbox located at the main entrance in Bradford Avenue. Alternatively you can download the registration of interest form that is on the website and email it back to the school and we will then post out your pack.

To find your zoned government primary school, please check the Find My School website. Please ensure that you change the year option to 2021 as the zoning has changed due to the new primary school opening in Greenvale Gardens in 2021.

Enrolment applications from outside Greenvale Primary School’s zone will be considered if there are places available at our school.

Reminder

1:30pm finish on the last day of term. All students will be dimissed at the same time.
