House Cross Country Prep – Year 2
On Monday, 3 May all students in Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 competed in the House Cross Country Championship. I was very pleased so see all the students competing with such enthusiasm and I enjoyed the friendly wave from some students as they ran past. There was fantastic support from the parents who were assembled near the finish line. The Year 2 students did very well running their two-lap race while Year 1 and Prep completed the shorter course. Thank you to the PE team – Merryn Ashcroft, Natasha Tench and Nathan Dunn for the great preparation and running of the event.
The Resilience Project
Martin Heppell from the Resilience Project has been working with staff, students and parents this week. The Resilience Project is utilised in many organisations in Victoria to help build positive health and well-being practices in schools, sporting clubs and the community. Martin was engaged to work in the three different forums to best suit the group needs. We will continue, as a whole school, to build on what we learn from the Resilience Project. The continued focus on health and well-being is directly related to emerging community needs in this area and is supported by the Capabilities outlined in the Victorian Curriculum.
Data Literacy
Over the last three weeks Assistant Principal, Felicity Hall-Shulman and Leading Teacher (English), Frances Braithwaite have been working on data literacy with all the classroom teachers and the Teachers of the Deaf. The focus of the work has been examining students’ narrative, recount and persuasive writing samples with reference to the learning outcomes for each year level in the Victorian Curriculum. The professional learning for teachers has identified what students already know in writing, some of their misconceptions, as well as enabling goal-setting for the next stage of learning. The teachers working together on data literacy will be able better meet the learning needs of all students in writing genres.
Amanda Curtain returns – STEAM
We are very pleased to announce to return to school of Leading Teacher (STEAM), Amanda Curtain (Petch). Amanda will continue working on a part-time basis in 2021. All students will be using the resources in the STEAM Room with their teachers throughout the year to build their understanding science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.
Year 1 & 2 Swimming
SwimWorld in Springvale Road, Glen Waverley will be the venue for the Year 1 & 2 swimming Program. The program will be conducted over the next few weeks and this will enable all students involved to improve their swimming and water safety abilities.
Year 6 Camp – Waratah Bay
Over the next two weeks the Year 6 students will be attending either the Waratah Bay Beach Camp No.1 or No.2. Next week students from 6BG, 6JH and 6DB will attend the camp. All students will be able to experience surfing lessons with licenced instructors, bush walking at Wilson Promontory as well as camp-based challenge activities. This is a new camp for Mount View and it provides an opportunity to do many activities that are new to our students.
Monash/Manningham Principals Network Conference
On Thursday and Friday this week the School Leadership Team: Bianca Gatherum, Felicity Hall-Shulman and I attended the Monash/Manningham Principals Network Conference at San Remo. This was a great opportunity for our team to work with teams from twenty-seven other local primary, secondary and specialist schools. During our absence the school was in the capable hands of the Acting Principal, Chris Cheverton who was ably assisted by John Kennedy.

Community Involvement - Education & Policy Sub-committee
The Education & Policy Sub-committee of School Council is a great forum for community involvement in the development of the school. The Sub-committee met in the staffroom on Tuesday at 3:45 pm to discuss and develop a final draft of two key guiding documents: Assessment Policy and Reporting Policy. In the coming months the focus will move to the Teaching and Learning Policy, International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program Policy. Please contact felicity.hall-shulman@education.com.au if you would like to be involved at the June Sub-committee meeting.

Parents are reminded that students are not to leave the school ground during school hours without a responsible adult. If your child has a dental appointment, etc. they must be signed out by the responsible adult. Students are not allowed to walk home or to an appointment by themselves.
