Classroom Reports

Welcome to 2021

Foundation and Year 1

A warm welcome back. This term in Inquiry, students will be investigating a unit on 'Dinosaurs'. They will be using their senses to observe and describe the features of modern and prehistoric living things. They will be making comparisons and claims about where animals might live, what they might eat and how they might move. Students' questions and ideas about prehistoric animals will be explored and tested.

At the end of this unit, as part of our assessment task, children will be making prehistoric animals using materials. Outside our room is a large basket to place items that we need, such as egg cartons, margarine containers, tissue boxes, cardboard tubes, yoghurt containers, and cardboard boxes.

Thanks

Year 1/2

Welcome back – we hope you all had a relaxing holiday and are set for another term of fun and learning! This term in Inquiry we will be learning about… everyone’s favourite… Dinosaurs! The students will use their senses to observe, describe and compare the features of modern and prehistoric living things. Our questions and ideas about prehistoric animals will be explored and tested.

In Maths we will be doing lots of addition and subtraction, learning strategies to help us do mental equations quickly in our heads.

As the weather is cooling now please make sure a jumper comes to school every day (with a name on it!)

Keep up your reading every night - we have some wonderful readers in our room!

Mrs. Deirdre McKenzie, Teacher

Year 3/4

Students have settled in nicely to the term. We welcome a new student - Riley Buttery in Year 4. The students were excited to see some new things from around the classroom and their desks.

It was great to hear so many of our students experienced a relaxing time at home or camping over the holidays and many were able to see family.

Great job to those students who remembered to return borrowed library books and to bring their library bags to school for our Tuesday library session.

Keep working hard on your weekly homework tasks and reading each night. Remember these are examples of what we learn in class, so keep in touch with our current learning in InitiaLit and more by viewing your child’s work they bring home.

Looking forward to an exciting term ahead!

Ms. Jessica Higgins, Teacher

Year 4/5

Welcome back!

This term students will have weekly homework and spelling words. Students will receive their homework on a Monday, and it is expected to be handed in the following Monday. The work will be based on content covered in class and will provide additional practise.

I’m looking forward to having a fun and productive term.

Mrs. Carlie Turnbull, Teacher

Year 5/6

Welcome to the wintery start of Term 2!

In the classroom, to reduce mud on the carpets, I’m happy for the students to bring slippers from home if they wish. Any time the students are outside the classroom shoes are a necessity.

This week we will be working on impromptu debates. Ask your son or daughter at home to test themselves. Give them a discussion point and 2 minutes to come up with as many well-formed arguments as they can.

Homework will be introduced this term. We will start with reading every night. As little as 10 minutes to as long as the students and families like.

We are going to have a few helpers in the class room this term. This will range from different Education Support staff to different Teachers at times. As always, our class will continue to work to our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience as the Leaders of the school.

Year 12 Legal Studies visit to the Wedderburn Police Station

On the 24th of March, the Year 12 Legal Studies class, consisting of Kaitlyn, Laura and Emily visited the Wedderburn Police Station. We were fortunate enough to get a tour of the station and were able to ask the Sergeant some questions about his time and experience in the Police Force. Whilst on the tour we learnt about the order and operation that happens after an arrest, as well as a tour of the processing room, the interview room, and the cell.

We were also lucky enough to try on a police vest and see how heavy it was, as well as hop in the police car and turn the lights on.

We would like to say a massive thank you to Mrs. Woodman for providing this opportunity for our Legal class and the Wedderburn Police Station and the Sergeant for allowing us to visit and teaching us the behind the scenes of being a cop.

Thanks.

Math's Pathway

Welcome back to a busy Term 2.

With Term 2 underway, it is important to remind you all of the expectations when completing Math's Pathway.

  • All students should be completing at least one module at home each week and revise prior to each test.
  • Remember to complete each question and show full working out in your book, as repeating the process with assist you with remembering the content. For example: writing out the formula for calculating the area of a rectangle each time, substituting the values into the formula, and then solving.

Congratulations to this fortnights Math's Pathway champions.
