Assistant Principal Report

Nathan Wallace

Congratulations to all our students, teachers and families for surviving Term 1, 2021.

After the circuit breaker lockdown in week 4, students and staff returned unsure how the term/ year would look and were anxious about the prospect of returning to remote learning. This uncertainty was exhausting. Thankfully, we have made it to the end of term 1 and now everyone can rest up and hopefully have a much deserved break over Easter.

Reporting

Progress Reports were published on Monday and should be used to celebrate achievement and improvement while also planning for future improvement. Student Parent Teacher conferences on Wednesday and Thursday are another opportunity to discuss student learning and planning where to next.

Assessment

On Thursday 25th March, year 7 & 9 students participated in the NAPLAN coordinated practice test (CPT) along with 400,000 other students across the country. The CPT served dual purposes: the first to stress the NAPLAN online testing system, and the second to familiarise our students with the NAPLAN online testing system. Pleasingly, we discovered many ‘glitches’ with the system and our network that will allow us to be well prepared for the actual NAPLAN testing in term 2 (11th- 14th May).

Year 7 Camp

In week 6, I had the pleasure of attending the year 7 camp at Rumbug in Foster. It was great to spend time with 82 students and staff while we learnt to overcome lots of challenges (whether it was overcoming fear of heights on some activities, or in my case just getting to and from the activities). Having grown up in the flat Mallee, I’ve learnt that Foster has some of the steepest hills in Gippsland, if not Australia. What made me so proud was seeing our students demonstrate the MSC values of being RESPECTful to each other while LEARNING about themselves, how RESILIENT they can be while they achieve success, both individually and within our school COMMUNITY. Congratulations to students and thank-you to our amazing staff for allowing the camp to run and be as successful as it was.

I look forward to further celebrations of learning in Term 2.

Happy Easter to all in our school community.
