Music News

Dear Music Parents/Carers & Students,

As term one draws to a close instrumental music staff couldn’t be happier with the progress and enthusiasm our musicians are displaying with only a handful of lessons. Attendance has been outstanding and all students are turning up to their lesson with their instrument and music. It’s going to be a great year!

The instrumental music program has expanded with the College now offering string lessons. Lessons have now commenced under the tutelage of teacher Donna Stemberger. Violin, viola and cello are instruments offered with a few vacancies still available for violin. A reminder to string players that lessons are every Monday. Check your timetable and if you are unable to attend your lesson please come in and see Donna at the beginning of session one as there could be an opportunity your lesson could be re-scheduled to another time. There are plans to run a string ensemble during term 2. We will notify all students when this occurs.

Guitar teacher Ryan Lestrange has some vacancies available for guitar and bass guitar. If you are interested and would like some information pop in and see Ryan who teaches in studio No 1 which is located outside A1 in the Art Building on a Wednesday or Thursday.

Please remember to attend your weekly lesson and don’t forget your instrument and music. Another reminder if you are unable to attend your lesson please make contact with your teacher as there might be an opportunity for your lesson to be re-scheduled at another time during the week.

Junior Concert Band

Our junior musicians attended their first rehearsal last Wednesday. The rehearsal took place in A1 during lunchtime. The group managed to play simple melodies concluding with a 12 bar blues. The kids were enthusiastic and sounded amazing for their first time playing in an ensemble. Band members are: Olive Brooks, Caleb Miller & Marley Wyld on flute, Jaxon Marshall (Boisdale Consolidated School) on clarinet, Oliver Allison, Will Howell & Kade Meredith on saxophone, Cooper Scott on Trumpet, Hunter Barberio & Bailey Pembrey on trombone, Olivia Palmer, Thomas Hanson, Alexander Giles & Hamish Meddings on percussion & Amy Bawden on tuned percussion. This ensemble will rehearse every Monday during lunchtime. I am looking forward to working with this group and can’t wait to see their progress develop throughout the year.

Year 10 Band

This group is making good progress. They are currently working on their song list and look forward to performing at our concert held in term 2. Band members are: Max Mott on Drums, Jimmy Tourtoulas and Zane Laws on guitar and Nimeh Kardes on vocals. Rehearsals are held every Tuesday in A1.

We still have a few vacancies left for flute, clarinet, trumpet & trombone. If you are interested and would like to have a trial on any of the above instruments please email gerardo.ciavarella@education.vic.gov.au or you can contact the College on 5147 1790, or just pop over to the year 8 hub.

Concert in term 2

Plans are to run a music concert early in term 2. The evening will feature some of our ensembles, soloists and small group items. All parents/carers and students will receive a letter with all information once details are finalised.

A reminder to all students to take their instrument home for the holidays. Don’t forget to practice your band pieces and work your teachers have given you.

On behalf of all music staff: Kimberley Gardiner, Donna Stemberger, Ryan Lestrange and Gerry Ciavarella have a safe holiday and we look forward seeing you all in term 2.
