Year  7 & 8 Boys Cricket

The year 8 boys cricket team headed off to Sale on the morning of Friday the 19th of March. Unfortunately, due to low numbers, the year 7s and 8s combined to compete together against fellow year 8s from Catholic College Sale and Sale College. Our day began by losing the toss against CCS, with the MSC boys sent out to field. CCS piled on the runs in the 10 over innings to amass a total of 2/119. The innings was highlighted by a direct hit run out by Tyler Mills. With plenty to do, MSC opened the batting with Jett Stewart and Sam Dekkers. Unfortunately for not only the pair, but the rest of the team, runs were few and far between, with wickets falling left, right and centre.

To the boys’ credit, spirits were still high amongst the group with a keen eye ahead on winning the second match. Again, skipper Jack Dowsett lost the toss but was this time sent into bat. The scorekeeper was kept a bit busier this time, with our 10-over score finishing at 68. With a match on their hands, Sale College came out to play, and the end result looked bleak for the MSC lads. The opposition looked like they were going to cruise to victory, until a middle-order collapse which involved multiple run-outs ensued. With one over remaining, 2 wickets in hand, and 9 more runs to score, Sale failed multiple times to get bat on ball, and a wicket with the final ball of the day ensured MSC came away with the victory.

Overall, a fun and successful day was had by all involved. A big thank you to Ben Dekkers & Tarant Rose to assisting on the day.

Tennis

Congratulations to the year 7 and intermediate boys who participated enthusiastically at Traralgon Tennis Courts for the first round of summer sport last Friday.

The intermediate boys displayed a high level of skill to defeat both Catholic College Sale and Traralgon Secondary College in their rubbers, however Lavalla proved far too strong on the day soundly defeating the boys to eventually win the competition. Congratulations to the Intermediate team - Colby & Jack Dennis, Patrick Lee and Miller Stephens.

The year 7 boys played Catholic College Sale in the first round. In some long and thrilling rallies, College inched their way ahead to win the round on points. The next opponents were Kurnai followed by Traralgon Secondary College. The boys displayed tremendous improvement throughout the day to defeat both schools however in the final match. Lavalla again proved too strong for the Maffra team. Well done to Ned Conway, Xander Raine, Oliver Allison, Will Howell and Hunter Barberio.

I am very proud to report that the boys represented Maffra Secondary College in a positive and sportsmanlike manner. Well done!

Maffra Secondary took 65 students to play interschool volleyball on Friday the 26th of March in Morwell. We had a team in every age division which is a fantastic turnout. All students did a great job in representing the College, demonstrating sound volleyball skills, good sportsmanship and a great attitude. Maffra Secondary were very successful on the day. The following teams won all their games that day which means they go onto the Gippsland round – Year 7 Boys, Year 7 Girls, Year 8 Boys, Year 8 Girls and the Intermediate Boys team. Students will continue to have lunchtime trainings leading up to the Gippsland round on May 5th. Congratulations to all the students who participated on the day.
