Achievement: Lions' Club Youth of the Year

Candy receives her award

Congratulations Candy!

This is the third year Northcote High School has entered a regional final of the Lions club ‘Youth of the Year’ competition organised by the Northcote Lions Club. Our candidate this year was Nguyen Kieu Khan Bui (Candy) who is an International student from Vietnam in Year 11.

Candy had a preliminary interview on Sunday August the 20TH where she met the three judges and was asked question about her academic achievements, her hobbies and her leadership roles at school as well as any volunteer work that she might be doing. On Wednesday September 6th she participated in the public speaking part of the competition. To the delight of her fellow students and staff Candy won both sections of the competition. Her speech on the need for traditional values in the modern world was especially well received by the Lions, Lionesses, Lion Tamer and the Judges!

This is a great competition because it gives students an opportunity to discuss with the judges their involvement in community activities as well as their academic achievements. According to the judges, these young people are the leaders of the future. To see an International student experience success in this way is a great credit to Candy and to the Lions club for giving her this opportunity. We are very proud of you Candy! There will be an opportunity for two more students to enter this competition in 2018. If you are interested please see Mr Ramsay.
