Encore! A musical feast

Strings, Wine and Cheese evening

A busy time for our skillful musicians

It’s been a busy and exciting few weeks for Northcote High School musicians.

Big Band Boogie was an evening of jazz and big band music from our Stage Bands. The night also included a set from year 12 students Theo Carbo, Callum McKinnon-Mintzis, Joshua Torcasio and Saro Blaikie with special guest drummer, Darren Farrugia.

Strings, Wine and Cheese highlighted the talents of our three Strings ensembles and Chamber Orchestra. VCE Music students, KJ Rotunno and James Rex performed music from their end of year program. Special guest musicians Sarah Busuttil and Silas Palmer entertained the audience with upbeat and energetic gypsy and folk music.

Our ensembles have also participated in a range of competitions over the past few weeks.

Highlights include:

Senior Stage Band- gold award Essentially Ellington Competition

Symphonic Band- silver award Victorian Schools Music Festival

Trombone quartet- 3rd place Royal South Street Competitions

Concert Band- bronze award Victorian Schools Music Festival

Junior Choir- bronze award Victorian Schools Music Festival

Intermediate Strings- fourth place Royal South Street Competitions

Well done to all our talented musicians.
