Losing yourself in a book is great relaxation, so come down to the library and pick up some holiday reading.  We’ve added over 150 brand new books this term - there is something for everyone and we’re happy to help with suggestions.  From Superheroes to big data via the AFL Women’s - here are some of our top picks to get you started:

  • Poetry from Australian literary giant Thea Astley and Harry Baker - mathematician, slam poet and you-tube sensation.
  • Young adult realism from Claire Zorn whose One would think the deep was this year’s Children’s book council; Pip Harry’s Because of you, inspired by her volunteer work with a homeless shelter; and New York Times #1 bestseller The hate u give by Angie Thomas centring on race, privilege and the killings of unarmed black people at the hands of the police.
  • Journey to the outer limits of the mathematical universe with Beyond Infinity by Eugenia Cheng; or find out why everybody lies on the internet with Seth Stephens-Dadowitz and what this can reveal about human civilization and society.
  • Superhero adventures for comic book fans: The rise of renegade X by Chelsea M Campbell and Wonder Woman warbringer by Leigh Bardugo from the DC Icons series.
  • Re-live the excitement of the inaugural AFLW season with the Women’s footy Almanac, or check out Dane Swan’s autobiography, it is September after all.
