As Term 1, 2021 draws to a close, it is a timely opportunity to look back at how student attendance has tracked over the term.

Improved Attendance in 2021

In the previous issue of the newsletter, we examined the impact that Lockdown 3.0 made on student attendance, while also noting that overall attendance had improved from this point in 2020.

Since then, we have seen an encouraging and steady increase in attendance across Year 9 and Year 10. With increased attendance comes increased opportunities for learning success, and we certainly hope to see this improvement continue into Term 2.

Term 1 in Numbers

As of the end of Term 1, Week 9 (the second-last week of term), average attendance across the whole college was sitting at 85.84% - a nearly six-point improvement on this time in 2020, when whole college attendance sat at 80.60%.

Our largest cohort of students is our Year 7 students. Their average attendance is sitting at 91.20%, which is slightly above a minimum of 90% attendance over the year.

Our Year 8 students make up our second-largest cohort. Their average attendance currently sits at 87.58%, which while slightly below 90% attendance, is also slightly higher than this point last year for this cohort.

Our Year 9 students have seen a substantial increase in their average attendance, which is sitting at 83.52%. While this is also below our target of minimum attendance at 90%, it is higher than this point in 2020, when this cohort's average attendance sat at 77.64%.

At VCE, students must meet the minimum 90% attendance target in order to pass each unit for each subject. Our Year 10 students are now just three terms away from starting their first VCE subjects and have shown some improvement in their attendance to match, with their average attendance sitting at 81.04%, up from 77.46% for this cohort at this stage last year.

Rewarding 100% Attendance

As part of our House Competition, students across all year levels that have 100% attendance for each week are awarded House Points, ranging from 100-150 points.

If your child is one of these students, you will have received an email (and hopefully, a number of emails!) notification indicating that your child's home group teacher has awarded them house points for their perfect attendance that week.

We certainly look forward to awarding more students for perfect attendance more often in Term 2.

Enjoy the Easter break, keep safe, and we look forward to having your child back with us in Term 2!
