Mother’s Day is a special day.  Each year we pause to think about our mothers and those who have shaped our lives.  We give thanks to God and share memories as we think about our mothers who have gone before us.  We give thanks to God and reach out in love to our mothers who are in our lives today.  We give thanks to God and celebrate those, who like mothers, have shaped us.  We give thanks to God and celebrate those who are mothers, or like mothers, to the ones we love.

Most all of us have been blessed by a mother or someone like a mother in our lives.  Mother’s Day is a time to pause, remember, give thanks to God, and share our gratitude with those who have shaped us.  Take some intentional time to be with family.  And, let them know you love them and thank God for them.  Thanks Mum!

On Friday morning, the generous fathers in our St Louis' community donned the aprons and prepared a delicious breakfast for our St Louis' mums. The hall was filled with love and laughter as mothers shared breakfast with their children and their friends. After missing out last year due to lockdown, many mums took the opportunity to share in this wonderful event and our hall, bursting with community, was a sight to behold.

We wish all mothers, grandmothers and mother figures, including aunts, step parents, close family friends, even dads who fulfill the chief mothering role in families, a day filled with love and peace, and may we be mindful of those mothers who have suffered the pain of loss.

On Mother’s Day, let us acknowledge the truth that we have two mothers: our earthly mother and our Heavenly Mother, the Mother of Jesus. The Catholic Church proclaims the great nobility of the Mother of Jesus, Mary most holy, and presents her as the supreme model for all mothers.

Let us show our love and appreciation for both of our mothers and let us ask our Heavenly Mother to take care of our earthly mothers. We need to be persons for others, sacrificing out time, talents and lives for them as our mothers are.
