Misty Adoniou Professional Learning for Staff

On Monday our staff had well regarded literacy expert, Misty Adoniou provide professional learning around literacy instruction.  She demonstrated how teachers can use rich literature to delve a little deeper into the language techniques of authors, so students can take on board that vocabulary and language understanding to apply to their own writing.

Misty was a primary school teacher for 10 years before moving to Greece and teaching and consulting in the area of English Language Teaching for 7 years. She now lectures at the University of Canberra.  She has received numerous Teaching Awards, including the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence, and was the Lead Writer of the Federal Government's Teachers' Resource for English Additional Language/Dialect learners.

As I have walked through the school over the past few days it has been fabulous to see staff put into practice some lessons that Misty demonstrated, which help students use more sophisticated vocabulary in their own writing.

ANZAC Day

This Sunday is ANZAC Day. On Friday our school captains will run a short ceremony over the loud speaker about why we celebrate ANZAC Day and students will observe one minutes silence. Our School Captains will also visit classrooms to sell ANZAC Day badges  and pens which range from $2 - $5.

Our students have been off to a busy start this term. On Tuesday our Middle School Students started their preparations for the Middle School Production ‘Beetlemania’ which has been written by Ros Lawrence and David Moreland. They were introduced to the songs they are going to perform on the night.  Keep your eye out later in the term for information about tickets!

Our Prep Students had their first incursion of the year with the RACV Safety School. Their Integrated Unit this term is Our Community and the students are learning about the people in their community and how they help to keep us safe.
