From the Principal Class

Dear Viewbank Community,

It has been great to have all staff and students back onsite this week.

The buzz around the yard and the genuine excitement to be back together has been felt by all.

Both Middle and Senior school teams have been full steam ahead planning for key events that take place in these last six weeks of term.

The Music and Performing Arts domains are also in planning mode, and we will endeavour to squeeze in as many events as possible to really engage and reconnect our students.

Year 12 exams

The Year 12 exam period began with the English exam taking place on October 27.

We have been mindful of the impact of a closure due to Covid and have ensured we have a Covid-safe environment.

So far, the process has been seamless, and we have had excellent attendance at exams.

Given the challenge of two years of VCE disrupted by Covid, our Year 12 students have been incredible in their resilience and mindset in completing their year to the best of their ability.

We will celebrate our students and their six years at Viewbank College with a Valedictory Ceremony in the PAC (students only onsite) that will be streamed for parents.

Parents will then join for a celebratory picnic.

Please see Senior School News page for further details.

I want to thank exam supervisors, the Senior team and Jackson Moloney (AP Senior School) to ensure that the exams have run smoothly.

College Captains for 2022

I wish to congratulate Madison Adams and Troy Ferreira on being voted as our 2022 College Captains.

Thanks to all of the students who applied to be College Captains.

We had a large number of quality applicants, wanting to take on leadership in the College. Each and every one of them has been encouraged to look for other formal and informal ways to lead and represent the student body at Viewbank College.

We can’t let such talent go unrecognised.

Other formal leadership roles are currently being advertised and we will announce the whole leadership team in the next newsletter.

Events

The following events have been proposed and we are hopeful that we will be able to provide these opportunities for student performances and celebrations.

All events are subject to Covid-safe regulations and limits on attendance.

Bookings will need to be made. More details to come!

  • November 19 - Year 12 Valedictory ceremony and celebration picnic
  • November 25 – Friends of Music BBQ and Senior bands concert
  • November 30 – Cabaret Night
  • December 2 - Strings and Guitar Soiree
  • December 3 - Junior Production screening
  • December 4 - Year 11 Presentation Ball
  • December 11 – Year 12 Presentation Ball
  • December 14 & 15 – College Production - Chicago

Uniform

On return to school, I have seen a drop off in the wearing of correct uniform.

I do need to remind parents and students about our uniform requirements.

We are a college with a uniform, and attendance here requires students to be dressed according to our College Council Uniform Policy.

We have given students time to settle back into routine, and I fully understand that many of our students have had incredible growth spurts over the past 14 weeks.

However, there are some simple things you can do to support the College.

Please check the following:

  • socks are white (not black)
  • no long-sleeved tops under school dresses or school shirts
  • correct jackets (not hoodies)
  • PE uniform has College blue shorts or blue tracksuits (not leggings or black tracksuits)
  • Black leather shoes (not runners)

If you have any concerns regarding the uniform policy or financial concerns, please contact your Head of House or one of the Principal Class team to discuss.
