A Message from Cam

Student Leadership

'I never thought in terms of being a leader. I thought very simply in terms of helping people.' John Hume

'Become the kind of leader that people would follow voluntarily, even if you had no title or position.' Brian Tracy

The continued development of Student Leadership at AGPS is a priority for our school in our next phase of our journey. We have formal leadership positions through our Grade 6 student leaders (our current Grade 5 students are applying for these positions this term) and our Junior School Council (JSC), and these students will be provided with numerous opportunities in 2022 to develop and demonstrate their leadership capabilities.

An important message to our school community is that all students can be leaders by their actions. Students do not need to hold a formal leadership position to demonstrate leadership. I observed a number of examples highlighting this, including an older student comforting a younger student after an accidental fall and helping this student find her friends, all done with a kind and caring nature and quiet determination to help this young girl.

Maths Olympiad

A committed group of mathematicians participated in the Maths Olympiad this year. Unfortunately, the Olympiad was significantly impacted by the number of lockdowns we encountered, however, the students still enjoyed the mathematical challenges presented to them and demonstrated pleasing improvement in their capacity to work through the problems and articulate their strategies. One of our students achieved in the Top 30% of all students in Australia & New Zealand who participated! Well done to all of these students and they will be acknowledged at the end of the year assembly and at our graduation.

As it is Staff Appreciation Week, it is appropriate to acknowledge our staff's relentless commitment and dedication to the academic and social development of our students. Our community is certainly fortunate to have the staff that we do!

Take Care All & hoping for some warmer weather soon!
